Why bother?

Just trunk trailers up and down the motorways and let someone else do all the manual work/unloading…just ain’t worth the effort when you don’t have to - especially if you suffer with back problems…

I get paid to drive trucks, not to load and unload 'em…[zb] that!

If I wanted to load and unload and lift heavy weights, I’d get a job in a warehouse…

My first proper HGV driving job was for a potato merchant. Loading 26 tonnes of new potatoes by hand from a field in Kent is something I’ll never forget, but I didn’t damage my back & I was a hell of a lot fitter then & I am now…

hi , i have calor deliver into the builders mechant i work for , they have a new 18t truck which has the normal rear t/lift as well as one that runs the full lenght of the truck which seems to make life a bit easier for side of load .

Hope they were in bags and you weren’t having to chucking them in one by one

i worked for them for 15 years , 20 drops i wish some days i done 40 /45 . i ended up leaving after hurting my back . just so happened i landed a better job at the same time, its hard work but not a bad job other wise i wouldn’t have done it for so long.

To the OP

I delivered gas bottles on ADR for flowgas for a while on agency. I can honestly say that it was the hardest graft I have ever done and I really admired the lads who did it day in day out.

It wasn’t for me but they loved their job - One other point though on some jobs they were expected to actually connect the bottles too before removing the empties

I’ve been offered a job at calor delivering bottles
I can see a lot of people say it’s hard work, it’s the same money as I earn now and I have to work on a refinery nights, weekends,

Is there any one else who has done the job and has any advice

To the OP, why have you deleted all your posts??

He must have got in bother over summat :unamused: :unamused:

Can’t see why, no criticism of anyone as far as I can see.

Don’t know but the OP’s post was over two years ago

Just a quick up date regarding calor.

I’ve been here for 12 weeks now and although the lads who work here are great the management is a joke!

Through an agency (utter bandits), had me paying employers national insurance as well as my own, and had to claim it back at a later date so called legal loophole based in the Channel Islands

They promised the earth and took the p!!!

When I handed my notice in they started complaining about my work, not fast enough, " my delivery percentage wasn’t high enough"

Please be warned of what they expect, I’m no slouch and have been driving for a while so have heard all the phrases like " oh I thought you’d be back by now" and “everyone else does it” Blablabla

On a brighter note I’ve managed to get on a tanker job with a local firm
