.

Lets have some pics of the Volvo at work tomorrow then, please Muckaway.

Len Jackman loading sharp sand at Bardon Aggs, Manor farm Quarry, Kempsford

Richard West with some sand frozen in the body…

I expect that this old girl is long gone

Can you do me a favour Muckaway, can you get a decent shot of RX06 DHD Alpha 6 wheeler as the only pick I have is blurred.
Thanks
Mark

If I’d read your post earlier I’dve got one-I was washing mine for service (prior to promotion to an 02 reg 8 legger for a day or two) when Reuben pulled in to get a job done on it :frowning: Re. The M reg 8w you posted, yes it went about 3 years ago (I think when the 57 reg FM came). I drove it a few times, great 12 speed crash box with a ■■■■■■■ 325 underneath. Made a nice sound when pulling hard and would do about 58 flatout. I think it was exported although the scrap value of the alloy body was worth more than the whole truck. Those early 3000s had notoriously heavy steering and crap lock-I got caught out in Chipping Norton a couple of times in front of some nice young ladies
And while I remember (must’ve been the alloy body) it felt unstable when tipping muck/soil…

This was my first fulltime wagon. Brilliant off-road and could carry just under 16 tonnes. It had a large old style steering wheel and with much improved power steering when compared to the M regs made it a great motor for a newbie like me

VWL 514X “Enslow Falcon” taken by Len Jackman at Stanton Harcourt quarry. The scrapped knavy behind is a I believe, a Priestman Cub

My favourite lorry as a boy YFC 230V

Len Jackmans’ first new lorry. As I’ve said in other threads, these had awful plastic seats, forcing the drivers to sit on beach towels in hot weather
Apparently, the TMs weren’t geared very well either

G reg Leyland Reiver that was used as a dumper at Stanton Harcourt. Nobody seems to know why this one had such a strange tipper body when compared to other 6 wheelers.

I don’t suppose that a pic of D 704 PWL has surfaced at all Nathan? Wish that I had taken some, but I didn’t!

Pete.

Not at the moment Pete, but I’m currently trying to sort a pic of sister wagon D352 PWL on the day it had it’s signwriting finished and it went on the road the same day…

I might have a word with my old gaffer then and see if he took any, will post it on here if successful.

Pete.

The best I can do Pete, D352 PWL

Identical to the one you drove Pete, I think sold at the same time

Some bedtime reading

Smiths need to update the pics on their website as all lorries except the Alphas in this one have been sold

Taken at Bloxham rally a few years back when the Foden Society used to attend en-masse

A409 NUD. I’ll check with workshop but I think this was one of three, two with Gardner engines and one with a ■■■■■■■■ I think Percy Stratford has this one brand new.

Still looks a nice lineup Nathan.
