Danny Hunt was parked in Bledington waiting to get into a site (with beacons and hazards going) when a chav in a Polo or something similar, came around a bend and decided to push a loaded 8 wheeler out of the way… Truck was repaired and is now enjoying life in the sun somewhere, probably carrying a 50ton payload :open_mouth:
Note… Said chavs mother thought the lorry driver was at fault as “you don’t expect to find a lorry here…” :unamused:

I would think the chav would need some clean underwear after that :open_mouth:  .
Cheers Dave.

Smiths recently had this on demo, my Dad had it for 2 days and found it couldn’t match his Foden for power, but had plenty of room!

Dad posing in the cab-something I’ve never seen him do!

“Hello Mum…Dad won’t be coming home tonight…”

A tadge impractical for your line of work ? - did “ole Phil” have a go in it ?

No I don’t think he did, it was being washed when I went in the yard ready to go back. We’ve tried basic Scanias but they weren’t anything special. A Daf with the auto box impressed early in the year. I really liked the Merc Axor that I tried during a T&D truckers test but I don’t think that’s being followed up. How’d you know Phil?

Hi Muckaway, i knew a couple of your drivers who were based at Smiths concrete plant at Banbury, Mick had a foden 4000 series 8 wheeler and he used to keep it spotless, ive seen him get out of his cab and climb straight into the body walk down the load to open his tailboard rather than walk through muddy puddles and risk gettin his cab floor dirty, the other was Andy, i cant remember now if he had a foden 3000 or a narrow cab constructor 8 wheeler, ile have to dig my photos out and check,

Andy Hewitt used to drive the last 8 wheel constructor we had G986RJO-that was last seen up your way near Bubbenhall. He did have an N reg 3000 8 wheeler, then a new 4000 on a V reg until he took on the low loader unit. He’s got the new Daf unit now shown in previous pics. Mick Haynes was still on Smiths when I started; Had G162BLM with alloy body. A story about him was that he went into Ardley for 200mm stone and came out empty, telling weighbridge “I’m not having that stuff on here!” Godfrey Smith stood by him!
Apparently his wife used to go with him on Sundays and she’d clean the inside for him. I once dribbled wet 6mm down the side of his truck and he looked like he was having a fit!

Dont know him . . saw the name plate in the screen. Have spoke to Andrew - sound bloke imo.
Said his old Foden was going to a showman, what happened to it ?

Static display in the yard! I don’t know whether it’s staying as a showtruck or not. It gets used as a shunter when trailers are being serviced or repaired, I heard a showman was interested aswell.

Some big lumps there mate do they break them up for you ?

Yes, they usually put the breaker on when there’s no lorries to load-or they drop a lump onto a lump from a great height!
Precisely why Smiths lorries are virtually all steel bodied.

The last Foden 8 wheeler Smiths bought- just washed and waiting to be serviced

The oldest working tipper, V772 GBY under repair

The only old style Alpha cabbed 6 wheeler on the fleet

This really must be one of the last ones, 56-reg were the last of the Fodens I think? I’ve never seen anything later anyway.

How do they manage to keep the bodies, particularly the sides so clear of damage? Whenever I go muckshifting the machine driver seems to spend most of his time clocking the sides with muck as he swings the bucket in. :imp:
