Now Stricky you young Wippersnapper! I was never general manager at Bewicks that was Derek Chambers position at the company! Among the many jobs I did at Bewicks was first of all a 4 wheeler driver then I worked in the Garage and also did change -overs when they got artics.Sometimes Chambers made me do a few night trunks but I still had to be back on the traffic office with him next morning!! They were hard task masters at Bewicks in the early days but after I had been there a few years I was made Yard foreman so I looked after all the trailers and sheets and ropes which was quite a responsible job! But when it got too much for me they put me on washing trailers and helping Jonny Cass with the tyres.I then had to look after the last guard dog Bewicks had because it tried to worry Cass and he refused to go near it again !! Then because I had been a loyal and hardworking employee I was promoted to Chairman & Managing Director !! Now hows that for rising through the ranks young Stricky ? beat that if you can young man!!!

Hiya Dave Happy Easter ! Been busy with the family ! Yes I did make the “brews” many times! The worst experiences I had in later years was turninig up in a Cafe when there was a gathering of Bewick lads! Guess who was down for the breakfasts/lunches/teas and evening meals (dependant on the time of day!)It was funny that when I got to the head of the Queue there was always 1 or 2 of them behind me with full trays and their motors were on the park when I pulled on !!But no one(to my knowledge) ever called me a tight [zb] Regards Dennis.

Carna:

well, this must be a first, ive never seen a 1123, didnt know scania did one of them.

BuzzardBoy:
These were the mob with Red and White Scania’s were’nt they??

They gout bought out by WRM Logistics in 199? IIRC…

yeah, they sure did, and things were never the same after that, livery was changed to silver and blue with a red stripe, which i have to say looked blumin awful, then most of the ex bewick scania’s were sold and replaced by MAN’S. I do miss the old BEWICK days, spent many a 6 week school holiday with my dad out in the wagon, happy days.

Move along the bus please! ding ding hold very tight please Stricky’s at the wheel!!! Now Mart as regard the Dog you are wrong again! what happened was at 9 o’clock one morning as I was putting Brucie back into his palatial living quarters after I’d given him his morning run in the field I was called on the tannoy to a phone call in the office and inadvertently I hadn’t got the bolt in the gate of his pad properly! So at approx 4/4.15 PM Brucie had got his gate open and started out round the depot and workshop looking for his G’uvnor! All the workshop staff ran into their office when Brucie charged thro’ the garage and I believe that 5 drivers in the depot got into a tractor that was on on the pumps! The only two that were un-aware were Roly Tyson and Skippy ! If Skippy hadn’t “filled his under pants” and drew Brucies attention with the “stink” where upon Brucie recognised him as a tormentor and charged at him to settle a score or two!Unfotunatley Skippy wasn’t fast enough up onto the cat-walk of his tractor and Brucie got a hold of him by his bum bum and shook him like a rat!! Roly managed to get into my office and tell me about the mayhem in the yard. When Brucie saw me he came straight over to me and I patted him and put him back into his quarters! If I had to list from 1to 10 who was the most valuable and favourite Bewick employees of all time Brucie would be around number 6 or 7 on the list!!! I was sorry that Skippy got the rough end of it as I could have named half a dozen that I would have been keen for him to “toussle” but anyway Brucie was insured and fully inoculated against catching anything!!! Regards Dennis.

Can any one list all the vehicles ever owned by Bewick?

I don’t think I could “George” so I doubt if anyone else could either! I would have a good go though and with a bit of help from various quarters it may be achievable Cheers dennis.
