I Think you’re seriously overthinking this prior to trying it … especially as you have thought it so far as to your road position prior to any particular motorway junction if you are so stressed about it it’s maybe not the job for you

Definitely over thinking it.

Takes as long as it takes. Get there when you get there.

If it worries them, tough.
If it worries you, wrong job.

What’s all the nonsense about doing 57MPH, warnings and losing ticks, calling if you’re going to be a minute late etc? I don’t know of any company that runs like that, even those that micromanage so I’d be interested to know what company it is. I think that you’ve come back to the job and you’re panicking about driving them because you’re effectively back to being a newby who has just passed their test in their first job and so especially with starting working nights so your brain isn’t firing on all four cylinders anyway you’re over-reacting, misunderstanding and making a bigger deal out of things than you should be.

Welcome back! Sounds like a bit of a shock return :open_mouth:

Are you carrying something particularly sensitive/valuable/stealable? As sometimes this leads to companies being a bit more ‘on your case’ than normal. But even so - this sounds a bit over the top to me.

I used to do a trunk run from the Midlands to Carlisle with tobacco products (in a plain white box trailer) and was not supposed to stop. But if I needed the loo, I would stop at the services, because I’m a grown-up. It also seemed to be okay when they then needed to add a further collection en-route, for me to deviate from the set directions and open the trailer in order to facilitate this :unamused:

Do the best job you can, in a way that causes you the least stress. Don’t rush about, and don’t cut corners. Do your checks to your own satisfaction and on their time. Drive within the legal speed limits, and in a safe manner. Get the job done and get the lorry back in one piece. If this doesn’t suit them, find something else. Not all jobs are like this - honest!

Dont drive faster than your Guardian Angel can fly. Better late in this world than early in the next. I hardly ever do main roads or Motorways nowadays. Its not possible to run with just a few minutes of lee way. You dont need the stress , find another job/agency.

I don’t think…

Any of this happened at all.

Have done this type of job but never been told like u are saying. I would say find another job or dont bother what your manager saying just do your work and don’t take stress. If management giving you stress then find another haulage company don’t stay there.

When my last company set up a new run they’d give the first five trips to different drivers then get an average of the drive time for that run. It wasn’t set in stone but to help the driver plan the trip.

And you do NOT have a mobile phone.

Runs are more often than not worked out by computer programs, which do not take into account traffic conditions etc etc
A run takes as long as it takes, YOU are doing the driving not some pointy shoe sitting behind a desk believing what the computer tells him as being gospel correct.
As for phoning in, your phone is for your personal use not company business, they want you to phone in they put a phone in your pocket or cab.

There’s proper jobs out there where so long as you do the job safely and the customer is happy, you’re pretty well left alone to get on with it.
At my place the phone never rings unless there’s been a job cancellation after you’ve left or some other similarly important message, none of this micro managing ■■■■■■■■, no one questions the route you take because trusted to get the job done.

The place you described sounds like hell and unless they’re paying seriously over the odds i bet their staff turnover is huge.

IF what you say IS true,.(I really hope for the state of the industry it is NOT btw :unamused: ) and you have not just genuinely misunderstood the situation, it sounds like a living hell of a job

Thing is though mate all these crap terms and conditions (that should have each been nipped in the bud by their drivers) , will have been each brought in gradually over the years you have been out of the game, gradually and quietly through the back door to see how much they could get away with, by making their drivers cooperate, in a ‘‘■■■■ it and see/toe in the water’’ type style, .and (most) drivers being as they are today (totally bent over servile) have sure as hell just taken each injustice up the arse over that trial period, with no question, …resulting in the cluster ■■■■ of a stress laden job it has become …as you describe.

Again… IF what you say is accurate, you should freely name the ■■■■■■■ s, on here, because if it’s true, it ain’t against the rules to do so afaik, …and if they have the courage of their convictions, ie can see nothing wrong , they may come on here and try to justify their terms,.and justify the knob heads who have devised them (who think they actually know a modicum of knowledge about the world of transport.)…that will be a laugh in it’s’seĺf btw. :unamused: … Anybody recall Pollocks coming on trying to justify their ■■■■ poor wages at the time.?..comedy gold.
I personally hate those type of ‘‘up their own arse’’ type firms with a vengeance,.and would hoy my licence rather than work for them. :imp:

As I said, if it is a true account, it is a sad indictment towards the industry and how it has declined over the years.,.especially since I started it.

dont know if im reading this correct, but your not allowed 15 minute break / vehicle check before shift starts.

Love the way he just pulls the thread without any explanation.
Reckon he’s had a warning off the firm in case he discloses their name.
That would make me more determined to do so.

I think he pulled it as he is talking nonsense and is a troll

And as it’s been pulled for reasons only known to the OP, it’s pointless and now locked.
