1996

Dear All,

Please help, however it will be difficult.

We are looking for an English truckdriver who travelled from Castets (on the night of the 25th of July 1996) and made a stop at Rennes of the 26th of July 1996. This English truckdriver possibly gave a lift to a young Dutch woman, redheaded, from Castets to Rennes station.

That day on the 26th of July, after the lift, the young women left with the train from Rennes to Paris. However, in the next days she was found -no longer alive- close to a highway next to Paris. This truck driver could provide information where she possibly went to in Paris. Her first name was Caroline.

Anyone who knows or remembers anything, please help and contact:
email: mirandavangeffen@hotmail.com

Please forward this message as much as you can.

Wasn’t me, honest officer.

I’m not sure if Peter Sutcliff was on day release on those 2 days ?

Best of luck with it Sanne, but it is nearly 20 yrs ago, the driver may have retired or even died in that time.
Do you know anything about the Co, for instance was it a British co or a Euro co with a Brit driver. If you could narrow it down a bit it would certainly help.

Yeh cmon lads it may be the guy’s daughter or something :bulb: :unamused:

I was thinking the same, along with also why the request??

and best of luck.

A strange request even more strangely worded

Thats 19 years ago…why wait for so long, unless of course there is information from the french police, i hope you have success in your quest, but you say you ARE looking for an English driver, then go on to say HE MAY have picked up a hitch hiker. good luck anyway and condolences if she is a relative.

Good luck and condolences. I have always been very moved by the heartbreak of those who don’t know what happened to someone they love and are searching for the truth. Sadly we know from WW1 history that sometimes this is not revealed for a very long time indeed.

As Sanne has said this is going to be difficult. The only thing positive I can really add is that it appears that the night of 25/26th July was a Thursday/Friday. I haven’t been able to access the newspaper archives to see what was going on in the world, but this is probably the only way of jogging peoples’ memories. It would need a couple of significant events in the week before or after to have much hope of success however. The only one I can come up with from elsewhere, is that Autosport broke the story on that day (25th) that Damon Hill was going to be dropped from the Williams F1 team at the end of the season; there were denials all round. He Won the Hockenheim Grand Prix on the Sunday of that week. Wasn’t there a European football competition in summer 1996 as well? I doubt if the ferry companies or the channel tunnel will have records of registration numbers for this long ago, but it is worth a phone call.

Over to Trucknet UCOS.

Being ex continental driver of that period, that route was the one I used frequently to get to st malo or Cherbourg, have you tried contacting P&O/ Truck line ferry company’s for a manifesto of Truck company’s that boarded any vessel
25th of July 1996 was a Thursday if that driver dropped this young lady of at Rennes he / she could possibly be trying to catch a ferry , if I remember correctly you could drive to St malo easily in the driving time , but Cherbourg could be done( in a ten) if you had a flying load, i.e. loaded fridge , also these ports were used frequently by Irish and British drivers

Gareth Southgate missed that penalty in the semi-final, a month before the 26th July.
