With modern trucks you need a laptop then a toolbox.
I disagree.
If you look at a last generation truck like a erf ect then I would agree but nowadays take fh13 first a onboard computer gives you a warning a computer will tell you the fault within minutes and then half the time on the repair is spent. Removing sound panels etc clearing the fault admittedly I drive only 35-40k per year in a truck but the need for boxes of tool is dying
TENG tools 1/2" drive socket set,3/8" drive adaptor to plug on the end, then just buy a rail of posi bits, flat bits, torx bits etc. A torque multiplier is a good piece of kit too. Bahco 0-36mm adjustable, molegrips ,pliers, circlip pliers, ball pein hammer, junior hacksaw,wd40,ptfe and sealing tape. And just in those few items you should be able to get yourself home.
Tools aside a good idea is to fit the Tractor unit with the same quick release suzi fittings as the Trailer
So the suzies will have a quick release fitting at either end.If you do happen to snap a suzie it will only take a few seconds to replace, without the need for a spanner And ptf tape

Is that not illegal or at the very least frowned upon? If it was allowed, then I reckon everyone would have quick release on both ends.

You would have to fit them to your spare susies each time as well otherwise no point, so wouldn’t be a big time saver ultimately.
Another thing to add that I’ve not seen mentioned is wheel chocks unless ADR kitted out already.

I’ve often wondered why we don’t see that more often on units to make suzie changing easier. They have quick release connectors at both ends on most of the wagon+drags I’ve driven so why not on the unit too?
No idea on the legality but I can’t see why it wouldn’t be allowed.

Although I have never seen, read or heard anything official about the legality of it, a fitter at Lynx Express told me it wasn’t allowed when I asked about it a few years back. I just assumed he knew more than me about it. Either that, he thought it would put an end to his skives when he had to come out and replace a burst susie and told us it was illegal.
But it makes you wonder why, if it is OK to do, why do we not see more trucks with quick release fittings on both ends. Especially when you consider its one of the most common causes of vehicle breakdowns, and the cost of a call out for a fitter to come and replace one. Think of the money they could save and the pay rises we could get!!!
I dont think it’s illegal, its probably not done by Companys due to the chance that it could confuse some driver’s But as an owner driver I think its worthwhile doing and saves a lot of time.Ok the initial expense would be more, but you would only have to carry one spare suzi ! Anyhow I think its a good idea saves messing about in the rain and dark so Ive done it to my truck.
By having them on C couplkings each end, they become an absolute piece of ■■■■ to steal.
If all trucks had couplings both ends, they’d be getting stole every day.

When the ECU suspects there’s a fault, it lodges a fault code (and puts a warning on the dash).
This fault code or warning message is not the fault, it’s a consequence of the fault. Deleting the fault codes isn’t going to fix the original fault.
Wiping out the fault codes is treating the symptoms of the problem, not the cause.
How can you fix a mechanical fault with a computer?

I’m not sure I agree with that, electrical suzies can easily be detached at both ends and I’ve never heard of anyone who has had one of those stolen…
Harry you own a Magnum,I own a Magnum…a toolbox…your having a laugh.Torx set to change bulbs that’s about it.If you wanted to play at being a fitter you should have bought some thing else.
When you have found a space for all your tools remember to shut your locker. The lomas merc actros driver who scattered the contents of his drivers side locker towards me will hopefully remember next time.
