Too hot in work?

This link may be of some use. I haven’t read it but your employer has a duty to provide comfortable working conditions.

Sorry but there’s no reason I know of why that would be of interest to LGV/PSV drivers, the part of the regulation that is relevant to the heat does not apply to vehicles that require an excise licence.

As respects any workplace which is or is in or on an aircraft, locomotive or rolling stock, trailer or semi-trailer used as a means of transport or a vehicle for which a licence is in force under the Vehicles (Excise) Act 1971(3) or a vehicle exempted from duty under that Act–

(a)regulations 5 to 12 and 14 to 25 shall not apply to any such workplace;

I agree the heat in the box has been unreal.

contract i’m on at the moment i’m supposed to wear flameproof overalls/boiler suit + hard hat ,glasses and ear defenders when working the crane on the lorry!! -i dont, but run the risk of severe sanctions if caught… only a few yrs ago it was trainers/shorts/t shirt and a hi vis vest if they were lucky!!

Did nobody listen to Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 yesterday in regards to the temperatures? There’s only a minimum temperature for working conditions (16°C). There’s no upper limit at all. Rather strange really.

I’ve gotta be honest, this is the first summer I’ve ever had a wagon with working aircon. In the past, I’ve just done what pretty much every other driver has done and got on with it because like you, if we don’t work, we don’t get paid. I was just stating that there is no upper limit to temperature in a working environment.

I also felt this is strange as the minimum working environment temperature is as high as 16°C. I remember the days of having no heater in my cab, day or night. -10°C in the cab on one particular night out. It was far from acceptable, but it’s just what I had to do to pay the bills.

Air con, what’s that novelty? Windows only here :laughing:

To be fair when out in the truck at night I much prefer to have the window down as opposed to the air con on. Trouble is if your in the countryside the cab gets infested with moths/flys etc. I did run the engine with air con on for ten minutes when on break to cool down. That was pleasant lol
