I left the depot to pick up a load from another company which used up 1.5 hours of my driving time, I then had to drive 205 miles to the delivering point and then 150 miles back to base, do you think this is too much to plan in for a single shift? - I had to use extended hours and only just made it back in time.
Are you driving a day cab lorry or sleeper ?
No not to much ,Monday I started 4am drove from Southampton to Manchester then Manchester to Wrexham 2 drops and drove to Shrewsbury
The fact you did it in 10 hours drive shows it was fine.
There is a strange idea that planners shouldn’t use the 10 hours. This is quite wrong and they are absolutely correct to use the 10 hours where they’re available.

You might as well have asked what colour socks the OP was wearing on the day in question because that wouldn’t make any difference either
A 10hr drive is legal in a day-cab OR sleeper-cab.

Is it legal to take a daly rest in a day cab? I would take it yes but just checking.

No it’s not the cab must have a bunk or get company to book you B&B
“You can take your daily rest in a vehicle, if it has suitable sleeping facilities and is stationary”
Welcome to the world of truck driving Micky, lol!!
Most firms are not interested in your family life, or what you want to do on a Friday afternoon. Its a simple case of delivering/collecting goods.
And if the regulations allow, then you are expected to get on with it. Crack on drive!

So just say that you are in a day cab and have run out of working time, but you are in the middle of nowhere. You can’t drive as you have no time left you cant be picked up as you have no time left and you cant sleep in the cab a rest. that would make it a 100% stale mate, no?

Get a taxi and send them the bill
P/s if I was in a day cab I would be long gone home by the time working was up , I would also of said when I got back sack me and I’ll take you to court for improper route planning
Was it too far for a single shift, with no night out planned? The delivery was scheduled for that day and the truck was due back out from the base on another local job the next day so a night out was never in the reckoning.
I was calculating the driving time as I was going … 1.5 hours collecting the load, 205 miles to delivery point (4.5 hours?), 150 miles back to base (3.5 hours?) total approximate driving time = 9.5 hours.
Just wondering how much wiggle room should be worked into the equation?
Looking at the figures I am not quite sure how I managed to get back in time, especially considering I got diverted on the journey down to the delivery point.
I am up for a challenge but…

Poor planning by TM , what would have happened if you had all ready used your 10 hour days up ?
