Is it just me and my phones that have a problem with TomToms?
My last 3 phones have all connected fine to my TomTom Go 730 just fine and they all transfer numbers across ok. However at some time during a phone call the TomTom will just turn off and need resetting to start working again. It also forgets the current route I’m using.
It’s a pain in the a**e and it always has been. It’s done it since it was new and in fact I sent the original one back and got a replacement for this very reason. The second one is just the same.
Nowadays every time I use my iPhone 4S it cuts off the sat nav half way through the call.
Is this common? I’m a bit reluctant to pay for a 5150 if this is going to keep happening with that too.
I’d rather try a Snooper S8000 and give that a chance.

Any info would be great. Thanks
try a tomtom go 520/530 and put truck maps etc on sd card , should be able to do that for around £70 .Bluetooth works ok on them.
Couldn’t comment on the IPhone tomtom issue but I ordered a Snooper S8000 truckmate last week, and I must admit it’s a great bit of kit, the tv is a big bonus too, it’s ten times the sat nav my pro nav was.
Thanks guys. If it was just the iPhone I would just put it down to an oddity, but it isn’t. I had exactly the same problem with my previous 2 phones - a Motorola Razr and a Sony something or other.
I would say that I’m not likely to buy another tom-tom because of this issue.
I like the Snooper S8000 too so I’ll probably go down that route. As you say truckerdan the TV is a bonus not to mention the bigger screen!
I have not had any issues with my TT 5150 and bluetooth to my Android HTC M8.
Though the speakers are that good on the M8 I dont bother with the bluetooth any more
I had problems using the Bluetooth handsfree on my TomTom Go7000 exactly as the OP describes - i.e. it would cause the TomTom to lock up and crash/reboot. Same problem with a couple of different makes/models of phone.
Now got a TomTom 5150 and it works fine on handsfree with my iPhone 5. Haven’t really tried it with any other phones though.
Thanks Drift and thanks Roymondo. I wonder if it’s a Go 7■■■ issue? It’s no good anyway but having said that I’m due an upgrade.
Glad to hear the 5150 doesn’t have a similar problem, maybe that one’s back in the frame now, we’ll see
Had the same problem on all my tomtoms with lots of mostly different nokias, after about a minute in a call, it restarts or freezes and drops the call, tried many different solutions but none worked.
I’ve never been happy with handsfree in a truck cab using anything other than a face-mounted microphone. There is simply too much background noise/the microphone is too far away compared to a car. Always find myself having to lean towards the mic AND SHOUT, even with the “proper” handsfree phones in our trucks. I almost never use them. Even when the office rings I ignore or reject the call and let it go to voicemail - If it’s important, they’ll leave a message. They’ve only once challenged me about it and I simply pointed them at the company’s mobile phone policy (which says, in effect “Driver to decide if it’s safe to make/receive call (handsfree only), if not, voicemail should be used.”)
Yep I’d have to agree. On the odd occasion when the handsfree works I was disappointed with its volume and clarity and I’d find myself shouting at the windscreen
I wonder if Snoopers are the same?
I bought a Plantronics K100 handsfree device for £50. You clip it on the sunvisor and although the speaker is ok, it has a built-in fm transmitter so you can tune your truck radio in to it. Seems fine, but you’d need a radio app unless you wanted to change the truck radio over each time you wanted to answer a call. And you’d need to know how to receive a call by voice command to avoid pushing a button…
It’s the location of the mic that’s the problem as I see it. In a car (which has a much lower level of background noise anyway) a sun-visor or screen mounted microphone is a matter of inches from your mouth. In a truck it’s a couple of feet away. That’s the issue in my book.
I use tomtom 7150 & a IPhone 5 never had any problems but I’m due a new phone soon so that could change. But I do ADR loads now but can’t get it to work on the satnav had it for about 3/4 years now so tomtom not interested apart from trying to sell me another one
