TomTom 700

Does anyone know if there is some software that i can put into my tomtom 700?
My E.T.A is always wrong cos of the speed that i do which is only 55 mph, I dont have a option on the tomtom 700 to alter speeds so im always getting a wrong E.T.A.

Anyone else have this problem?

cheers :frowning:

cant you change it under “planning preferences” on the main menu, then select reduced speed which allows you to put the max speed in yourself. .mine is tom tom 5 on a pda put i would have thought the software is the same
jon

No jon not on the 700 you dont have any options at all to alter the speeds.

I had tomtom 5 on a pda like yourself and could change it on there but not on this.

the 700 was the top of the range you would think it would have all the bells and whistles :open_mouth:
i have mine set at 85 k and its not far off on most trips

alix 776 is yer man for this… But doesnt it give you the distance to destination? if so work it out that way… then add an hour

Yea the 700 was the top one when i got it now they have a totom 910i version.

I paid £480 for mine on ebay brand new lol now look at the prices, and they cant even let you alter the dam speeds.

I’ve got a TomTom One and it seems to be able to work out the ETA pretty accurately without you having to tell it - I assume it works out for itself fairly quickly that the truck can’t get much above 55mph.

Well I’ve seem some contradictions in my time …

I dont know if this will be of use to you but I have just finished testing three satnav `s for use in trucks, the first was a Navman ICN 520 cost £189 from Halfords.
result good little machine if your in a car, but for commercial use no good as you cannot download information on bridges or width restrictions, 3out of 10

second was the Tom Tom One cost £249 from halfords
Again for cars great, downloads are plenty from the Tom Tom site but at extra cost, and they will NOT provide data for commercial use, ie bridges etc, as they will not be responsible for inaccurate information, but this is a good machine in mapping and very accurate 6 out of 10.

thirdly Garmin Nuvi 300 cost £251.43 from Halfords
This is the best one of the lot, I found that the information stored on the system was great in respect that you dont have to pay extra for traffic info and weather, you can download alot more from garmin free but again not the bridges information the unit has a variation of displays better than Tom Tom and Navman but if you want the top of the range @ £299.99 the Garmin Street Pilot is for commercial users 10 out of 10 and this is the one I have purchased for my truck, but as you are aware theres alot of different types of Navigation about but no one has seemed to get there act together in respect of information for commercial drivers, maybe in the future this will come about but out of the 25 units looked at and the three tested Garmin is for the day to day trucker.

As a post note I DONOT work for Halfords.

it sometimes takes short cuts which arent particular suitable for an artic but it still gets you to your destination
i had to have the power conecter repaired on warrenty and i was without it for 2 weeks,i had to dig all my old A-Zs out.glad to have it back
jon

hp who do you work for please

as for for the planning preferences the software is basicly the same a tt5 so you should be able to adjust the planning to limited speed and set it to 54mph

but for commercial use no good as you cannot download information on bridges or width restrictions, 3out of 10

above yes you can with the 520 as it supports custom poi in asc format these are loaded through the desktop software tyr playing with the route preferences too

width restrictions there are no points of interest databases for width or weight restrictions

tomtom

NOT provide data for commercial use, ie bridges etc

as above but in ov2 format loads of poi see my post above this for the planning preferences

garmin

poi can be imported all of the units and i use the term very loosly from the results posted “tested” can have speed cameras and bridge heights there are free and chargeable databases for these. what they will not do is route you round a problem automaticly they will only warn you that it is there

did you really look at what was available

Firstly I would like to inform you all that I am a Driver and the only reason I drive is becouse I dont know anything else, So I was asked to pick out three Sat Nav systems and try each one for the week, I do not have much information on computing so I used the devices as a novice like myself would, as for the update information this was given as feedback from other Drivers who had also used the devices and conclusions came from the simplest one to use and the best one to use as a novice,
If the information I gave was wrong then I apolagise this was NOT an official test it was done by a group of us wanting some thing we could work with in our daily routine, and I guess like all or most items purchased now, you can link them up to a computer and add or subtract items if you know what you are doing, we dont all have that capability and that was what we aimed at, simple to use with the information ready at hand. sorry.
