TomTom 6000 Truck Live Traffic PROBLEM

Hi

I’ve been looking at stanavs and was seriously considering the Tomtom 6000 truck version as I’ve got one in car and love it, especially for the live traffic and the way it re-routes you.

I had a conversation with Tomtom this week and they said when the truck one re-routes you, it DOESN’T take into consideration your vehicle size !! What’s the point of that then?

Anyone had any problems with the re-routing aspect?

Thanks

Yep in London defo ,but I always use 3 other things , my 2 eyes and brain

I’ve never experienced anything like that with mine. Even with the latest software update last month it still takes vehicle dimensions into account.

The only thing I will say is that it has never recognised “unstuitable for…” signs. But with a bit of common sense this isn’t to big an issue.

HTH.

I got one of these truckers in oct and updated it as requested, is there a new update available,i dont often get access to a pc u see,but if i know there is an update due i will get access to one cheers

As you sure you didn’t misunderstand them?
Mine has been fine in rerouting

I’ve had no issues with the re-routing regarding the vehicle dimensions either

Mines connected at the moment and it’s just downloading a new map

Although not a re routing issue, mine does a strange thing. There’s a place in Dunning I deliver to occasionally. It is a tricky one to find your way into the first time you go due low bridges and roads unsuitable for hgv etc. My tomtom 6000 trucker always says it can’t find a suitable truck route to the place, so plans a route based on a car profile. But it can find a truck route back out of the place no bother!! Not sure why this is the case.[emoji53]

Ok mate cheers,it mite be time to update mine again then

Map version is now v981.7940 after the update, took about an hour though :astonished:

Normal re-routes due to an road blocked or closed does take bridges, weights etc into consideration, however if you keep driving up to a low bridge it will do everything to get you away from hitting the bridge including taking you down streets unsuitable for HGV’s.

Thanks for that,il do mine!

Yes, occasionally it recommends side streets and unsuitable residential roads to get me out of a scrape I’ve gotten myself into (e.g. having to overshoot the original route because it is closed/blocked). I had one in Tottenham a few weeks ago where I wanted to turn right, but an artic was coming out and wanting to turn to his left, and there wasn’t room for both of us. I did the honourable thing and overshot the junction to let him get out, but couldn’t reverse and ended up with Tomtom advising narrower and narrower side streets to get back on track. Eventually I ran out of road and had to do some delicate manoeuvres in front of a builder’s yard with cars everywhere…

Eyes before satnav, a sacred rule…

On the TomTom maps, only the entry points to a weight etc restriction are marked (rather than having the whole length of the road marked). If the entrance point is a normal two-way road then both inbound and outbound sides of the road are marked, but if the road at the entry point has a traffic island in the centre (as many junctions and roundabouts do) then it is treated as two separate one-way streets and only the “inbound” road is flagged as restricted. As a result, the satnav can easily find a way out again.

This is a bit disappointing if it’s true. I know that earlier TomToms used to do it but I had assumed that on the latest version they might have fixed it.

They used to do the same if you had set it to avoid Toll roads. e.g. From Telford/M54 to go South on the M6, congestion around J8 would result in the TomTom telling me there was a quicker route available and did I want to take it? No mention of the fact that said route would take in the M6 Toll…
