Tomorrow Ought To Be Entertaining

Recieved a call this afternoon from the agency I work for, which was unusual in itself as I normally deal in house with the firm I work at.

“I’ve got a job with a firm in Loughborough and I immediatley though of you as your quite close to them (Polypipe Civils). It’s delivering plastic piping to sight (oh, deep deep joy) - normally we pay £9-00 p/h for the job, but as it’s you lovie, I’ll do you £10-00 flat rate.”

kerching go the pound signs in my eyeballs  .

"I know this firm xxxx, I’ve seen their motors running around with ruddy great poles sticking out of them. Must be some sort of load restraint. Can you ring them and ask them if it takes much training to work it as I wouldn’t want to say yes to the job and 'scuse the language - ■■■■ it up. "

“I tell you what ducks (the agency like me, can’t you tell  ) I’ll give you the TM’s 'phone no and you can have a word with him. If you don’t like the look of it, then let me know and we’ll get someone else. It could be an ongoing thing though if you do like it.”

They’re depserate for someone to do it obviousley. The firm are about ten munites from my house and I’m board with running crisps around to flippin’ great RDC’s so I ring the bloke up and have a chat.

The upshot is that it doesn’t need much training on the load restraint jobby and the’ll leave me a cubby hole full of ratchet straps just in case.

Start 06-00 tomorrow with a pre - loaded trailer. They’ll show me how to use the restraint’s and then I’ll be off.

If you hear of a load of plastic piping fouling up the M1 tomorrow, then it’ll be me (said in jest - honest).

Does anyone know this restraint jobby at all?

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Ian.

When I worked at a Plumbers Merchant we once had a Polypipe driver spill about 30, 6 metre lengths of 6" pipe all over the high st we were on. This was from the main Polypipe place at Doncaster though, were they make the normal common or garden domestic pipework and deliver on normal curtainsiders.

Thanks for filling me with confidence Andy :unamused: :open_mouth:   .

Another one of their drivers managed to lock himself in our toilet once as well, by breaking the key. He fished the remains of it out of the lock passed it under the door and had to wait in the foulest toilet in Surrey for 20 mins while we got a new one cut. We laughed a lot at the time and we laughed a lot several times after when he was delivering again.

On a nicer note the drivers from the Doncaster (or Edlington I think it is) Polypipe are a good bunch…hopefully this place is the same.

hard hats tomorrow then lads and lasses!!

Bearing in mind your last post, I think we’d be better off well away from each other, a pair of walking disaster areas if you take my meaning   . Thank god it’s my Friday tomorrow. Seriousley Si, I havn’t done this sort of work before and am looking foreward to it. Makes a change from hauling crisps around  .

 good comment! Good luck mate, just remember to take a decent pair of gloves :sunglasses:

It went fine. Turned out to be a couple of ratty style drops with a curtain sider so no problems. On with them ongoing through agency if I want it at the above rate. I’ll shuttle between them and two other companies and just to make life interesting.
