Tom Tom Traffic Info Expired

Hello. My Tom Tom Truck satnav has stopped providing traffic updates. I got a few warnings beforehand saying Ive got to link it to a smart phone. Does anyone know how you do this? Its useless without the traffic info. I,ve just purchased for £23 European traffic info in case that solves problem [an hour ago] but the tom tom doesnt seem to have been told yet. Maybe when I hook up to Wi-Fi at home it,ll start working? But I,d still be interested in knowing what you have to do to link to an iphone. Cheers in advance!

Just to add I know about connecting to Bluetooth but what else do you have to do to get traffic?

I just link my satnav (also a tom tom) direct to the household wiFi and update it using that. I’ve had the thing about 4 years now.

That’s fine for map and speed camera updates mate, but it doesn’t solve the live traffic problem when on the road.

I had similar issues just over a year ago, tethering it to the phone did nothing. In the end I ended up buying a brand new TomTom.

Top tip; look on Amazon for your new TomTom, put it in your basket but DO NOT purchase it. Every few weeks look in the basket, click on it but still don’t buy it. The algorithms recognise your interest and suddenly come the next Black Friday deal it’s 50% cheaper!

You’re welcome :joy:

Thanks. Yes I have a sinking feeling that’s what I’m going to have to do. The Tom Tom website is terrible & offers zero help & or guidance. There’s no phone number either. Shan’t buy another tomtom.

Go to setting and enable hotspot tethering , then you can see your TomTom turn a glorious red on the M25 :+1:

If I recall correctly the ones that came with a sim inside and would give you live traffic updates stand alone, were built around 2g mobile, so when that was wound down no longer worked.

I do have an ageing car tomtom 500 that uses Bluetooth, but they disabled the live traffic on that sometime in the last 12 months, due to its ageing status.

Also I find if I use wifi hotspot on the mobile and link the tomtom that way, it gets more traffic info on the map than when using Bluetooth, the latter tends to show 100ish km,s radius around me or thereabouts.

Just as an update. I’ve just turned Tom Tom on & it appears the European Traffic Package I purchased last evening for £17.95 ( not £23) seems to have made its way to the satnav & I can see already the chevron arrows that indicate traffic hold ups. And I wasn’t getting those before. So maybe I haven’t got to buy a new satnav after all! As an aside. I couldn’t buy the Traffic package from my iPhone. It was ok right up until clicking on payment when nothing happened. It was only when I was sat at my home PC could I make payment. But the Tomtom website is atrocious anyway.
