And you can get it cheaper than TT’s advertised price if you shop around.

Ken.

Ken, the link was for the European map coverage.

Know what you mean, but it also gives the price of the unit on your link, and what I meant was that if you want a 5150, then do shop around for the best price.

Ken.

brought a snooper s6400 what a load of **** just sent it back for the second time had two micro sd cards replaced im hoping to get a refund but very unlikely as ive had it since january just read there returns policy 7 days ***** gonna buy tomtom 5150 and put this on ebay for some poor ****

I’ve got a Snooper S7000 which up until recently has been faultless. The problems started when I switched from an MAN to a Merc and all of a sudden it wasn’t picking up the satellites. I’ve tried it on both the 24v and the 12v but it makes no difference. What I have to do is cut the power, then it goes into a countdown of 20 seconds before shutting down. I need to repeat that up to twenty times before it finally picks up and keeps satellite signals.

I’ve tried rebooting and resetting to no avail, and bizarrely if I plug it into one of our MAN’s or Renaults I don’t get this problem. It may sound a dumb question but as I know sweet fa about electrics, is it possible that the Merc makes its power in a slightly different way to the others?

Oh, btw, I’m not the only one at our depot to experience this with a Snooper used in a Merc!

Interesting! I never considered that. We do have telematics (not Fleetboard) on the units and I know our trailers are tracked. I shall make enquiries. Thank you for that.

i use a tomtom and mate had a garmin both had same problem and we tried a snooper in my mates . hope it sorts it for you

I have had an s7000 for the past 5 years or so. It does the job but I think I will try the Tom Tom 5150 next if it breaks. The free view TV is just a gimmick. The touch screen can be very frustrating as it’s low rent.

I have the Tomtom, it is good but far from perfect. It has tried to take me down several 7.5t limit roads without planning around it and then beeps at me when I approach it, bugger. It also does not know 18t restrictions that are not 24 hours and plans around all of those. The map also misses a few exits of the 406 and the A13 in London and tries to send you around the houses when the on-ramp is right in front of you. The traffic function is days late in updating closed junctions on the M1.M6 and M25.

It also does not know the night routes into London and happily plans you on apprach routes that are HGV restricted.

You still need to know roughly where you are going and you need to keep your eyes peeled for weight restrictions, so far it hasn’t missed a low bridge yet, which is good as I frequently take tall trailers in and out of London.

As an example of sat nav ■■■■■■■■, I went to Oakhampton today, A303 was shut at the end of Illminster so went to Taunton, anyway coming home, 5150 was saying turn off at Exeter for A30 Honiton as ever and 3hrs 3 minutes to home, not possible to turn off so carry on up M5 then it says 3hrs 33 mins to home and turn off at Cullompton for Honiton, so I plod past this exit still on M5 to come off at Taunton and the bloody sat nav changes to 3hrs 6 minutes to home, why the hell would it try to send you a longer timed route if its set to quickest route?

If it is the 5150, it recalculates the route to the traffic conditions at the time.

Although they are life time updates it is mildly misleading, in the respect that, it only applies to the map that is supplied when new. You will not get the new map when one is released without upgrading

I advise anyone considering buying a Tomtom 5150 to disregard this false information :bulb:

As far as I am aware, the ‘lifetime’ is the period in which the product is still supported. i.e being sold & having software updates released for it.

My 5150 has not caused me any trouble so far.

Maybe I’m not reading what he wrote correctly. The way I read it he was saying that you only get the map that comes with the sat nav and when they release a new one you have to pay for it. Which used to be the case but not any more. You get several map updates per year now and they’re all free.

Thats good feedback wheelnut the question’s I want to ask have you reported this to tomtom or have any of these issues been sorted via mapshare update. Also when you route your tomtom up say a hgv restricted road (except for access) does it get you to it or not give you a route?

Need a new sat-nav but £300 is alot of cash :astonished:

The 5150 will say there is no suitable HGV route and ask if you want to be routed anyway. Click yes and it will take you down the restriction.

I am contemplating selling my snooper S2500 and getting a tom tom 5150, so following with interest but to be honest other than the superior live traffic on the 5150 I am not seeing much to justify the expenditure

I’ve considered buying a truck nav but having read some of the comments on here, £300odd seems a waste of money, considering I’m doing ok with my TomTom XXL (car). I simply browse the route and check against my atlas. If it tries to send me down a weight limit I just press “road closed”. If the route includes minor roads and lanes I just select “travel via” and set specific roads and towns. My only complaint is it doesn’t have a memory card slot and the number of favourites isn’t large enough to save all our customers addresses.

Use POIs instead of favourites - you can then have hundreds of 'em

Think I’ll try that later, cheers. I didn’t think you could navigate to them as such, they just showed up en route?

Tap “Navigate To…”
Tap “POI…”
Tap “POI in City…”
Choose city where you are heading and all the near-ish POIs will be listed, in order of distance from the chosen City.
