I gather then that we all know what the left hand floor pedal in one of these does?
Opens the door??

We get alot of drivers defect volvos for waterleaks on the nearside, air con button left on

Did my class one psv in a crash box,
And in the old semi auto’s some did have a pedal to open the doors where the clutch used to be, trapped more slow pensioners in the doors than I should have lol

Completely accidental, of course.

And how many of you suffered the embarrassment of not being able to move a Volvo F10 /12 because no one had shown you that little knob that you had to press in when the air is up / engine is warm (can’t remember which it was now!)? Robert
Bromes brake…
That’s the kiddy! Robert
Crikey, that’s going back abit!
Surprised no one else followed up with this idea.
Should still have them I think!

Not as far as you might think. My 63 plate FH still has it.

Remember all, every day is a school day! Ability and attitude are just some of the things we learn in our lives
Bus companies have a rule that you must be ‘type trained’ before you can drive each model of bus.
This prevents drivers having the same problem.

Back in the day yes, just ask my left leg and my bruised arm hitting the steering wheel every time you selected third gear, blood great huge steering wheels, some even had power steering and they where air powered so if your air ran out you got a shock
thankfully they phased them out of service within weeks of me passing my test.

It preselects the next gear, doesn’t it? I once drove an RTL with a preselector shift. Robert

We are having our time wasted on DCPC when the training time could be usefully spent on driver inductions. Our vehicles are highly complex ,its just stupid to expect a stranger to walk in and drive away.If I were a T.M. I would be making sure that a new driver knew how to use the tackle before attempting to take it on the road.
+1 well said

I drove a Renault premium with auto box the other day and could not find reverse! There was nobody around to ask and I was going out solo, and luckily I was able to drive off site without reversing. I stopped down the road and eventually worked it out. It was a bit weird it just had D and N on one switch then there was a separate one for R but you had to leave the other one in D before selecting R.Same box in our volvo fl rigids if we have a new agency driver in shunter leaves the rigid facing the pallets to see how long it takes to get reverse, that said took me 5 minutes to work it out lol oops.
Brilliant don’t you just love shunters? LOL

Bang on. Stamp on it quickly and it engages the next gear. Doesn’t do the gearbox a lot of good if slipped like a clutch pedal. The pre WW2 version which was spring-operated rather than air, would teach you a nasty lesson if you tried. It bit back, a hefty whack on the ankle or shin bone!
We have several drivers who seem unable to put a Premium into neutral before switching the ignition off…Then, for whatever reason the air is dumped and the motor wont start… The amount of times one of our more useful drivers has had to go out to them because a) they’re stuck in a loading bay and b) because it’s quicker than getting the fitters out to them… Connect a line to their air tank from his motor, refill, and bingo…
One muppet did it twice in one day… Unbelievable…

Maybe they would be better focusing their attention on getting some decent mechanics to fix the trucks so they don’t dump their entire air tank capacity when engine is off for an hour. Sounds like a right cowboy outfit.
Left hand down!:

Lol… Cowboy Outfit ■■ far from it… All our vehicles (90) and trailers (180) are dealer maintained, and it is they who come out to any incident… seriously cant be bothered to explain the mechanics of air suspension and single item heavy weight loading at the moment …
Much simpler for the drivers select neutral before ignition off

There is no need to explain the mechanics of air suspension sweetheart as I am already fully versed with its operation but regardless, the load will not be such that it depletes the tanks to the point where there is not enough air to operate the transmission selector unless there is a fault or leak in the system. But yes, I agree that the easier solution would be to select neutral before switching off although admittedly I have forgotten to do it myself on more than a few occasions.
