Toby` s law.

Some good ideas here…but

Who will enforce/monitor some of these rules?

Police?..Nope…hardly any left on the roads these days…

VOSA…Nope…more interested in fining HGV drivers than checking retiree Doris’s insurance or eyesight…

A lot of the suggestions would cost money…and guess who’d be paying??

Re-testing drivers… Hmmm … There are around 38 million drivers in the UK (licence holders).

From what date would you count if re-testing drivers? If you took 2013 as the starting point you’d have to re-test all drivers in 2018. You’d have to conduct 38 million driving tests…yes, you could stagger it but there would be far too many to do each year to have any chance of success…plus all the re-tests and the people taking their first test. Nice idea but not really practical on a five yearly basis…

Motorway driving as part of your test.

How is that gonna work for people on Stornaway or Lerwick? :unamused:

Dorset ,Cornwall .etc

is that for car drivers or HGV’s?

Car drivers, I suppose. Frankly, 50 percent of the car drivers could not survive a week in Germany, Italy, or Turkey without accident. They are the ones, slowing down on slip roads instead speeding up, and, when a courteous driver (like me, hahaha) moves into the middle lane and let them join the motorway they set up a speed that same like the lorry’s speed and do not let the lorry back… Also, I can not understand the muppets, who drive at 50 miles per hour speed, think, they are sooooo safe and wondering, when dozens of trucks are overtaking them…

1 Cut fuel duty by 50%

2 Set a minimum tariff of £2.50 per mile for freight

3 Tighten cabotage rules so foreign vehicles can only load back to country of registration

4 No foreign vehicles can enter UK with more than 100 litres of diesel

5 More police patrols on the motorway

As top all learners have to do a LGV mod as part of car or bike test where there tested on how much space to give a LGV
^^ also for cyclist even a licence for cyclists to prove they know where they should be and the rules of the road ie traffic lights applys to them and going on the pavement still makes you a vehicle as it would in a car

Also been aloud to bob tail for 20miles (round trip back to trailer) private miles when you have nights out

If there was the threat of loosing your licence every 5 years I bet the standard of driving would improve as people wouldn’t let themselves get into bad habits. Also a copper could send you on a test if your driving was bad.
38 million driving tests? How many new jobs would that be?

Further additions=
All vehicles to have a reinforced roll cage built in to the cab or car, similar to rally cars to prevent being crushed in a crash.
All cars to carry fire extinguishers and a basic first aid kit, a high viz too, which is law in France and Spain for break downs.
Truck makers to fit a safe to go on the cab floor under the bunk, who wants to take their passport, fuel cards, bank cards, truck paperwork to the shower with them or when you leave the cab.
At night when there is no traffic, the traffic lights could just flash orange and you approach with caution to ease the flow and not stop at a red light when there is no traffic, i have seen this in the USA and it works well.
3 points and a £ 60 fine for having the wing or side mirrors folded in on cars, you will not see a bike or motorbike in the blindspot.
6 points and £250 fine for having snow on the car roof and bonnet, to be pedantic you get charged so much per inch of snow, you can imagine the police with a ruler.
