TNUK on your mobile

Who would like to see such an application downloadable for their mobile phones? (similar to Facebook minisite)

The reason I ask is because of a post from Tony66 regarding being in ‘Hideaway’ truck stop on the M4. If TNUK was available on mobile phones, I think it would easily allow people to be able to meet up when tramping and still be able to contribute on the forums, without the need for a laptop and a USB dongle costing the earth to use it. At the moment, if I ever go to a MSA to have a break, for all I know I could be parked next to Mr Vain!

Would any of the mod’s or such people like to comment on the possibility of such a service in the future?

Just get an iPhone! It’s so easy to use any site then. I do all my web browsing when abroad on my iPhone.

What about those of us who don’t want a phone the size of our heads, or are in a fixed term contract already, or don’t want to be with O2 and so on…? I’m on O2, but the Iphone is just to big for my liking…I’ve got one of the Blackberry Pearl’s and size wise, I wouldn’t want a bigger phone.

I have a nokia n96 i think it is on t mobile and get trucknet ok on it and its not very large. Not great for looking at the photos but ok for reading posts.

If you’ve got unlimited web access on your normal mobile phone, search for “Opera Mini”. It’s a mini browser designed for bog standard mobile phones. You don’t need a fancy mobi. You can surf to your hearts content. I have it installed on my Sony Ericsson K800i and can access TNUK on the move no problem. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed

Did you download Opera Mini or did you have something else already installed?

I have an E71 with qwerty keyboard. I didn’t load anything technical and I can surf to everything.

I didnt have to download anything, it came with ithe browser, and Google and all that already installed, was just a case of picking it up and go. The same as Wheel Nut, i have a full qwerty keyboard, but i have the 8300.

I also have a Blackberry Pearl so I thought I’d compare size. The iPhone is 9mm wider, 8mm taller and the same thickness. I don’t want to be with O2 but the this and the size are a small price to pay for the greatest gadget I’ve ever owned. It does live up to the hype and leaves other smartphones miles behind. Good times.

I also use opera mini on my nokia n95 8gb

i do browsing on my N96 too. o2 payg £7.50 a month for web bolt on. does the job although i have started taking my laptop too but that is limited to a 2 hour charge until i manage to get hold of a 12/24v charger for it

I have an HTC P3600, which Orange sold as the MDA.
3g internet, and bluetooth, so I can link it to a laptop and use it like a broadband modem.
T-mobile charge me £10 per month for something like up to 5 Gig.
Works fine without the laptop too.

Scanny, have you tried these people ?

I too have the O2 web bolt on, unlimited browsing on PAYG for just £7.50 a month

OK, well I took peoples advice and downloaded Opera Mini. It’s OK but has a couple of little faults in my opinion. But I still think the Mods should consider a new part of the site;

That is a section called “Truckstop Buddies” or something lame like that. The aim of it would be that drivers could see who else is in the same truck stop as them or who is going to be in the same truck stop as them later. Users would scroll down a list of all the truck stops and MSA’s until they found the one which they were going to. At that point the user would then enter their time of arrival and the time they intend to depart the truck stop. Once they entered their times they would effectively be ‘logged’ into that truck stop and then other members could see who is currently in the same truckstop, or who is due to be in the truck stop later.

As well as their times, users could also add small bits of info such as their registration, bay numbers or descriptions of their vehicles to allow other users to find them. Also another small info box that would allow drivers to enter their prefered sleep times. That way drivers wouldn’t be woken up by other people wanting a chat and a coffee.

I think this would be a nifty part of the site. We already have a similar thing whereby every week a thread goes up asking people where they’re going in that week. I just think this idea of mine would be easier and preferred…comments please :stuck_out_tongue:
