TNUK Future

I suppose the main question following on from the replies above would be. What do people consider a reasonable sub?

Something like a tenner a year would be about the same as a couple of hours behind the wheel?

If the “Poll” was would you assist financially to help keep Rikki and Lucy to keep going, then it would be an immediate "Yes

possibly a bit of a confusing poll.

but that is the idea to keep rikki and lucy running it

I would certainly pay a sub if it kept the site going. Although I do not post much on the forums I have learnt a lot from it. As i drive for a charity which is exempt from a lot of the rules (Hours O Licence) that you guys in the real world have to deal with, it keeps me up to date.

i voted NO!
it’s not that i don’t want to pay for using the site but that if the site was only accessible to those who paid then it would almost certainly lose it’s way and become a podium for those that wanted to have their say and were prepared to pay for that right.
this is a discussion forum where people can say whats on their mind, ask questions and gain knowledge, that has no price, it is priceless, it carries great value but a price cannot be put upon it.

the way forward is voluntary sponsorship by companies that can afford it, at the moment the transport industry is the wrong place to be with your cap in your hand, the price of fuel alone is enough to put many companies into the hands of the receivers, trucknetuk has done more for us drivers than the unions, it has become a weekend meeting place for many, a place to air your views and share your worries and concerns about things that have happened to you or rumours you have heard etc.
trucknetuk has also been the place that the industry press have gained much needed storylines for the next months issues, some have sponsored trucknetuk and some have snipped a story without offering sponsorship for the privelage.

i wish trucknetuk the best of luck for the future, perhaps the way forward lay in employing a sales person on a commission basis.

Another forum I am on has an option to “donate” to the running of the forum. Those that do donate get a gold star next to their name

Membership costs of other organisations already exist, why not here?

With the option I’ve mentioned abvoe you can pay as much as you want, but I think the minimum is £5.

Agreed. However, there are some ideas rattling down the pipes as I speak, which would ultimately keep the site free for all. :bulb:

I vote both “yes” and “no” :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I’d be happy to contribute to the running costs of the site.

No, I don’t think the site should require subscription. If the site became subs-only, a large proportion of the membership would leave, and it would probably dissuade 90% of potential joiners from actually joining.

Perhaps a model similar to userfriendly.org could be used - site is free, but if you pay a subscription you get the site without banner adverts etc.

I agree whole heartedly, thats why I voted NO

I posted the below on another thread

But I have always maintained that there is enough money in this industry to provide drivers with their own place on the internet, without asking the lowest hardest working guys to pay for it…

OOOPS missed out a word

without asking the lowest paid hardest working guys to pay for it…

have now gone back and edited the post :open_mouth:

sorry i am late in answering but YES YES i am willing to pay for the services that i recieve here, so i say YES,

26 in favour ■■?

Maybe that alone justifies putting a Paypal button on the Site for donations, so come on Rikki what yer waiting for

www.paypal.com and open an account with them they’ll supply the link for payments to be made by credit cards etc

i have gained so much from this site over the last few years, ( where do i start with that ) all the help and support made a lot of freinds

i would be willing to make a donation to keep Rikki & Lucy in charge

Donations will never be a long term solution; Rikki and lucy have a family to support and thus require a long term solution and not just a quick fix! So forget donations it just doesnt work.

Some of us have never had, wanted or needed a credit card so what are we susposed to do?

The only Visa i have ever had was for the US

A finanical backer is the answer, Or a benefactor like maybe a Union or one of the large Driving Agencies who could possibly get something in return from putting hard cash on the table for us hard worked low paid truckers.

I personally think that would create more problems i.e. Agency “A” might get a bit upset if members on here who didn’t think they were any good and posted as such.

Imagine sponsering a site only to read that drivers thought your agency was smegging useless and was advising no-one to use it.

Agency was just an example, they are lots of potential benefactors about and I am sure one can be found.

well you know how i voted.

look at it this way how much are trucking mags nowadays and do you get the amount of info right at your fingertips no course you dont

Thats a good point Neil and if that was the level of subscription then I probably would pay.
