TNT - UPS Buyout

This offer has been rejected but UPS it seems are keen to close the deal, good news if you hold TNT shares (up 50% in one day) but maybe not so good if you work for them. Time will tell.

I know globally ups outweighs tnt but in the uk especially - tnt batters ups, surely they would favour the tnt brand over their own ups brand in the uk that is?

TNT posted a net loss of 97 million euros for the first nine months of 2011 compared with a profit of 62 million euros a year earlier. TNT is in the midst of a 50 million-euro program to reduce “indirect costs”.

TNT “needs to be bought, pure and simple,” said Cathy Roberson, an Atlanta-based logistics analyst for Transport Intelligence. “From a global perspective I don’t see how they can continue alone as things currently stand.”

And most people would probably favour TNT’s colours to that horrible brown on UPS vans.

From CBS Moneywatch this morning:

How long can they keep trading though, figures released today: AMSTERDAM – Expensive fuel, a weak European economy and charges on its Brazilian operations have pushed TNT Express NV, the package delivery company, into a loss of euro173 million ($229 million) in the fourth quarter.

Not many companies can survive for long posting those figures, that makes them a tempting target for the buyout by UPS.

By all account the shareholders are pushing for the buyout to go ahead as they’ve not had any dividend payments for a longtime.

and now Fed-Ex are showing an interest in TNT, watch this space.

Fed-Ex always look into any dealings UPS makes for obvious reasons, the difference is UPS has ■■■■ loads of ready cash for a buyout whereas Fed-Ex doesn’t. UPS was waving around $11bn 3 years ago but withdrew from talks when the recession hit, they have been after TNT for years to bolster the European market as well and expand the Asian market. I see UPS walking away with this either way

I think the monopoly and mergers might put the stops on UPS buying out TNT. Just a thought.

That was mentioned but the buyout would give UPS around 30% control of Europe so any problems would be solved with a minor sell off of some assets or another.

Jimboy124 is getting a new uniform. A crappy Brown one

UPS & TNT Express announced a merger, as UPS confirmed that they have bought TNT for €5.16bn

TNT Express will carry on as a separate entity for the time being and all employee rights, covenants, and benefits under current ownership will be respected.

 Been there done that.

I see its tnt express not just tnt, so i take tnt mail and tnt fashion group are on their arse by themselves? Cause they wont survive without the transport muscle of tnt express behind them.

Doesn’t Clipper Logistics do what TNT retail used to do or do they work side by side? :unamused: :unamused:

TNT Mail split from split from the company last year and is now known as PostNL, TNT Fashion was sold as part of the logistics arm in 2006 but still retains the name.
