How do you fight with the tiredness during your shift? Let’s say you could not sleep when you had your 45 minutes break. Does plenty of caffeine solve the problem?

Sleep.

Have another break… make it an hour this time.

No.

I work nights and find the best way is to stop and have a walk round for 10 mins or so.
Don’t believe caffeine does anything as I drink way to much coffee anyway and still get tired.

monday night is always the worse glad to say after 4 years i have found a day job
Window opening and turning the blowers on cold seems to help a little.
Drink water in the first instance, & get out & walk about a bit.
The trouble with caffeine is that it can have a reaction not disimilar to alcohol, in the way it can make you feel very tired, very quickly after the first effects are wearing off.
Caffeine input can also make some people irritable / anxious, & if someone has a caffeine intolerance it can give them the shakes or worse
phone your mate and talk pish till the sleep wears off…stick your head out the window and pour a bottle of water into your eyes 1 at a time…skull a can of coke in 1 go…all tried and tested to keep you going to varying degrees…no doubt to be frowned upon by the perfect driving brigade, but do what you thinks best to keep you going.anything to pass the time that you can concentrate on…not forgetting the favourite pastime of internet ■■■■ on your mobile if you don’t have a dvd player in the cab…start an argument with that condescending mealymouthed English voice ■■■■■ on the satnav,or from the o2 menu,or alternatively, just go for a kip and risk getting laid off for being late…

Comedian cd’s , can be better than a radio , your always listening for the punch line of jokes, or listening to funny stories, it keeps you awake laughing your head off.
Get plenty of fresh air circulating around the cab.

Pity we couldn’t put all the jokes out of bully’s bar on a cd
put the tv on
Just have a tug on ya tallywhacker
Eat an apple !!..don’t know why,but always perks me up no end…and I don’t even like them (except in cider
)
Just put one eye to sleep for 15 miles then the other eye. Pirates have no trouble driving ships with only one eye

You are obviously tired so sleep for an hour ■■■■■■■■ to transport, or carry on and kill yourself or some poor family in a car. sounds bad but it happens, its up to you.

Thats because your body has become tolerant to it. Like many drugs the longer you take it the more you need to take for it to have the same effect.
As for the question my suggestion is a 10/15min power nap. Even if you could sleep for 30+ mins on your 45 it wouldn’t be much good and you’ll awake feeling even worse. I dont really get tired anymore but I used to just put a pillow on steering wheel and get a power nap, if I got on the bunk I’d struggle to get out. Main thing is DONT DRIVE TIRED. Take from someone who wrote his car off through driving while tired. It was a good lesson though, it taught me that once my eyelids start drooping it’s time to stop.
An endemic problem seems to be that some (possibly too many) employers interpret the 13/15hr regs as an obligation on the drivers part to fulfill. Never forget that these are NOT compulsory, but MAXIMUM permitted by law. Ask yourself how many of these dicks lead by example? Most are at home chilling out (a) before you start (b) before you finish, and care not a jot for your well-being or work/life balance. The word NO can be a very effective remedy for extreme fatigue, and if your gaffer interprets this as having a bad attitude towards your job as opposed to a responsible attitude towards safe working, perhaps it
s time to look to pastures new. Bottom line in reality - sleep is the only thing to truly alleviate tiredness. If you allow them to overwork you, it will continue in perpetuity.

I overheard it in a drivers waiting room,so it must be true, though ive never looked myself.

When I first started doing night trunks I found it difficult too. The old eyes started going together, especially coming back up the M74 where its pitch black. So I just pulled in somewhere and set my alarm for 15 minutes. I found this more than enough to get me back up the road.
If anyone says anything about it and tells you not to do it just say “I hope your not putting pressure on me to drive tired simply for a deadline”. This’ll put there gas at a peep. Hopefully!
