Tips

2 months into the season and I’d usually have had a few tips by now. Not loads, but an occasional couple of coins or a fiver now and then. So far I haven’t been offered a single bean this year.
Anyone else who might get tips occasionally notice a decline in this area? People hanging on to their pennies these days.

“2 months into the season” ? What season? And what sort of work do you do to get tips?

I had a bottle of wine one Christmas from a regular customer but that’s all!

Turf and topsoil. Landscaper will give you price of a drink sometimes. Domestic customer will often do same though I notice the crappier the estate the more likely to tip. Big posh houses never ever. They don’t get rich giving money away! If you make an effort a fiver is sometimes handed over when you get the signature. Best ever was £20. Couple of bags of topsoil right up the back of a big allotment site. Bloke was over the moon cos he was expecting to barrow it all from the gates. Saved him a days work.

I have noticed a decline but still not too bad, its just something extra, I don’t plan my week around it.

Only tip I’ve had was get a proper job!

Tips, money - never

Tips?! Only tip I’ve ever been given was a box eh chocolates that where 3 month out of date

That sounds like the sort of tip Sher Bros would give you.[emoji1] [emoji1]

Yeah, funny you should ask. I’ve just had a fiver today!

I reckon I get a fiver a week on average, but we still do COD without carrying change, so that helps boost it up.

Loooooo, which farm are you pulling out of? Are you mad busy?

Get fairly regular breakfast/lunch/coffee when delivering to shops, restaurants etc… used to be a windscreen fitter and averaged about £400 a year in tips.

Mad busy is exactly what we are. With all this sunshine we can’t get it out fast enough. We knocked CODs on the head a couple of years ago cos they slowed us down so much. They were becoming a PITA. Rolawn stuff out of N. London. A Friday in Spring is a busy busy thing. 2 drops to Travis Perkins today though who seem to think we have all the time in the world!

Tips!? :open_mouth: Since when did drivers get tipped? I once got tipped by a Moroccan for moving a couple of items to his other factory in a neighbouring town where I was going anyway - that was more bribery than tipping! Robert

CODs used to do my head in. Everyone shouting for “first drop” and you’d be rushed off your feet. Come flying in to someone who’d been on the phone to the office all morning asking when’s it gonna get here I got guys standing around with their thumbs up their arxes. Soon as its unloaded it would be oh the boss’ll be here with the cash soon enough… he’s at another job just wait here he’ll be along in a bit. :imp:
So what you want me to tell the next 8 drops? I’m hanging out here with you lot?
No change carried as well though so it did help towards the tea kitty. Pleased we don’t do them any more though

Yes they are a pain. I keep asking for them to be knocked on the head. But generally as a rule we don’t hang around, if the dough isn’t waiting on site, the goods aren’t dropped off. Period.

only tip i ever had was dont eat yellow snow :open_mouth:

never cash but the only “tips” I’ve ever had are when I’ve picked up fish straight off the boats, then it’s a fish or similar like a couple boxes of crabs  :

though one time I got given an interesting lump of stone that got dredged up with the shellfish

the only tip i have for you ends in the word off

Very close to tips is perks. I did used to get perks, especially picking up wine round Europe. The wineries nearly always gave drivers a bottle or two ‘for the cab’; which made multi pick-up work in France go all the smoother! Robert

Got a tenner today as well!

You watch, that will be it for months now!

Ah finally broke my duck. Got one pack of five biscuits. Not quite a tenner but better than a poke in the eye. Said no to the cup of tea cos I thought the queue of traffic I was blocking might get annoyed about that.

Going to have to pull my finger out to catch up with you F-reds. You must be in a more generous part of the world.

What a great find! Quite literally a “tip”. Make a good door stop I s’pose.

You forgot to mention, my good looks, and, winning personality…
