tippers

Muck monkey:
I do a lot of muck shifting in and around northants and cambs. Easy job good money you just have to ignore the orafice. I drive an 11 plate hino which ain’t too bad average 8.1 mpg.

Mick George?

Muckaway:
What are BP Mitchell like? Not to work for, but the truck my new employer’s bought for me to drive was one of theirs. Just looking on the 'net, photos show them to be well looked after.

Rms at silver town run quite a few ex bp Mitchell scanias

I’m well happy with the way my new job’s going. My boss has 3x 8wheelers on contract to a plant/agricultural contractor, and the great thing is, he’s paid a day rate instead of on the load. This means sticking to the limits as he gets no benefit from “the extra load.”
As a plus, the contractor seems very image conscious and never gives us set numbers of loads and allows for waiting time and delays.Very rare to get a phone call from anyone during the day, the jobs we do tend to be for the day or multiple days. I’ve been running topsoil to a stud farm for 3 days now, no stress and easy tipping.
Their TM is spot on, rings about 4.30pm, asks if the day went okay, tells you what you’re doing the following day and thanks you for today.
It must be having an effect on me, I was parked up in Oxford Services and bought a copy of T&D and a…um…“trim” for the windscreen.

Ah day work, love it, used to work for Murphys Civil Engineering on day work before they went bust. Turn up at 7am & be waiting for a load as they were digging trenches out to lay electric cables, sometimes we’d only do the one load & wouldn’t get it until 1-2pm lol.

Glad to hear you’re happy don’t forget a photo of that ‘trim’ for windscreen

Well I’ve got a dilemma; 59 plate ex BP Mitchell P380. Manual tailgate and no weigher.
Or…
06 reg ex Leedale P420 with weigher and auto tailgate. Both trucks are manual gearboxes.
I’ve been driving an ex Leedale one (sister to the one mentioned above) all week and was really impressed with it. Immaculate inside (is half leather seats an option ‘cos the Leedale ones have them?), only problems are oil usage (blocked breather apparently) and cruise control etc on the sterring wheel isn’t working. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about P series day cabs but I love them, might’ve found my tipper of choice now instead of Foden :open_mouth:
Decided on having the better of the Leedale motors, and my embellishments are as follows;
Oxfordshire flag.
Canadian plate on the grille.
Nameplate in window.
Windscreen trim.
There’s also an empty light bar on the roof and the boss’ son likes light shopping on Ebay…
Yes, Muckaway with a customised tipper…

Go for the auto tailgate mate. It’ll help keep the motor clean.

It’s a bigger engine and the fact it’s older is just vanity.

The 59 is said to be a “bit minging” inside, whereas the older ones are clean. Could be worse, the boss was offered a new Hino (Euro 5 with delivery miles) but took a gamble with older Scanias.

I’d stick with the older Scania. I’ve been told Mitchell’s wagons have been worked hard basically abused so that’s why they shift them after 2-3 years, if your gaffer can fix the lil niggles on the older Scania then you’re laughing.

Good job they didn’t take the Hino, we ordered a new Hino & there’s been nothing but problems with the loss of oil, fuel bleed line leaking & getting into the oil.

What’s happening with Hino? As far as I know they don’t have a Euro 6 engine. Apparently there are loads built for muck shifting sat at dealers.

You’re correct, they all had to pre registered by end of 2013 so quite a few sat in dealers. Although Leeds Commercials have taken a few on for their rental market. What’s surprised me is I’ve yet to see a single new Euro 6 Volvo FMX on the road

Smiths Bletchington have a couple on order.

Here’s a comment which might be worthy of discussion; Boss said yesterday that 6wheelers are “a thing of the past”. He runs two CFs for Hansons’ and doesn’t see a future in them. “Wages are the same as an 8wheeler, fuel consumption is almost the same and they carry less.”
Smiths still have a large (ish) number of them, probably because they do a lot of private deliveries, but firms like Earthline, Sheehans etc around here have long since abandoned using them.

Be paying good money for those. I like it but as the boss told me he’s has 3 Volvo 08 tippers & just problems galore with them so he’s been put off by them along with high retail prices & Adblue.

Try and tell my boss the wonders of Volvo… :open_mouth:  I doubt there’ll be one in our yard for a long time.

Haha I like Scanias, loving the new one I was given in March last year. Such a shame the euro 6 has Adblue systems on them.

One of our old 'uns, retired in the sun.

Going away today to be resprayed into a customers’ colours.

One of those Leedales pulled out in front of me on a island on the A616 near Welbeck yesterday hope it wasn’t you Muckaway lol :unamused: :unamused:

An ex Leedale motor will be used to grafting hard Nathan, I bet when you clock on in the mornings it will have already fired itself up and be champing at the bit to get a day and a half’s work done before lunch! Quite a shock coming to it now with you knocking off mid afternoon.

Pete.
