to Coopers still run a fleet of ageing Fodens?

ageing Foden 05 plate, i have seen a lot older trucks running about & newer trucks in a lot worse state

I remember an article in a truck mag about 10 years ago and they had a lot of oldish Fodens back then.

A couple of photos of an older Foden

I found this today, the last eight wheeler that I drove. Rolls/Perkins 335, 13 speed Fuller g/box. Based at Ballidon Quarry near Ashbourne I had it new in November 1996, it replaced the Foden in my Avatar pic, and photo taken in October 1997 a few minutes before I left the company and went driving a six wheeler for a local firm. A good last day, a load of tarmac to Castle Vale, Birmingham, then tarmac to Balderton near Newark, a load of dust to Hulland Ward and to finish off a load of tarmac to Crystal Peaks, Sheffield, on hand lay! Started off at 5 am and parked it up at 7.pm, gaffer had gone home so put keys through letter box and that was the end of 22 years service.

Pete.

It wasn’t owned by Tilcon Dave, the Transport Manager at Ballidon took the truck’s over when Tilcon sold them (and us! :frowning: ) off. He bought three P regs, mine and one other similar, and a cancelled order one from elsewhere which had a ■■■■■■■ and 9 speed box. Mine was sold to a Tarmac O/D near Bristol when STB Transport closed down. My Avatar Foden was the last new one that Tilcon put into Ballidon, May 1986.

Much the same happened at the Gore Pete. All the Tilcon drivers were sent on a course to get there standard national cpc,all bar two passed and started up as O/D’s.A couple didn’t operate for long because they couldn’t hack the worry. They went to drive for other firms,a couple were nearing retirement.
Three former Tilcon drivers and a former Tilcon fleet mechanic are still running their own lorries out of the Gore.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Tony,
The Ennstone quarries have now been taken over by Marwyn Materials and named Breedon Aggregates as you probably know.Tim Hall who you no doubt know is the chief executive for the England area, with a lot of the blokes from Tarmac this way going to join him.
Cheers Dave.
