Tippers

Muckaway:
I know an OD who still runs an ERF like the one you pictured, on an F reg and he said it “still earns the same as a new 'un”. What’s the payload of your current truck, 19.5?
We’ve got Charlton Superlites on most of ours but I bet the body on yours is the same size as the one on my 6w.

19 max, shes 13 ton empty with a full tank, the body sits high due to the underfloor tipping gear which adds to the tare, other wagons on the fleet with exactly the same body with front end gear are half a ton lighter, it had an ali weightlifter body on untill about a year ago but it was nt much lighter with that on. The old ERF used to get a 20t plus load and it was only 30.5t gross but with a 265 ■■■■■■■ it would nt pull your hat off

We’ve got an 8w FM with alloy body that carries a pitiful 19.7ton. Not long ago, an alloy body could guarantee you a 21t payload. We fit the Steelites as they’re a good compromise for muck/agg work. We get nearly 20 on the Fodens even our MAN gets 19.2 and they’re notoriously heavy chassis. I think our alloy FM has the heavy duty chassis and has a liner plate fitted to protect the body when on rubble, I suppose bringing down payload below the 20 mark.

Do you know how this firm finds the Hino?

Hi Hammer.
The Hino is driven by the bosses son Phil, he loves it mate.
I only worked for them for a year & the Hino was new then, but they had no issues with it while I was there.
Only fault was the strap snapping on the easy sheet.
I think he could get the full weight on it too with the aloy body.
The firm were so impressed with it they looked into replacing my 6 wheeler Foden with a Hino, but there were weight problems with the six legger Hino so they didnt bother.

Hello johno,

Thanks for the info. I’ve got a 6x4 and it does have a bit of a weight problem , however, its reliable, good off road and comfortable IMO. I don’t suppose you know how well this 8-legger goes on fuel?

As far as I can remember it wasnt any worse than the Fodens & Phil isnt known for being soft on his trucks.
In fact when we were running together I had a job keeping up with him.
I’ll ask some questions for you matey & see if I can come back to you with some better info.

One of brigg’s motors parked up blocking the road, the driver called into the sarnie shop over the road from where he parked, Now thats a real tipper driver for you :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
