Always love the “stone came off the lorry” when I was empty at the time or carrying sand or compost.
Even an empty tipper will have some residue from it’s last load, and it’s a pity to cause so much chaos for following vehicles when all it takes is a quick sweep out by the driver after he’s tipped his load.
Perhaps sand or compost is not such a problem (unless your following said tipper on a motorbike), but chippings and small rocks spraying the following traffic is just a sign of a lazy careless driver. Certainly NOT a professional!
You cant sweep out anymore, health and safety regs don’t allow you to get in the body, empty or loaded.
Seriously . . does that reg apply to walking floors aswell
i’d love too see where it says that in the h&s book and i would love too see what the tassc people would say about that.

maybe he couldnt do up his tailgate because his hands were to sore where he drags his knuckles on the floor walking along, ive allways found tipper drivers the thickest of the thick, flat out on any road and [zb] anyone else ime coming through,8 wheelers are the worst chasing the bonus, and when ime on motorway work i can do what i like with my yellow light on my cab and my high viz jacket on and rigger boots, sorry to stereotype any driver but if the cap fits!!!
Yet some of us know how where to insert capital letters and it’s written “I’m” not “ime”.
Rigger boots are generally a no no now due to poor ankle support.

Don’t know about walking floors, we have had drivers banned for it in tippers, reason given…it’s against H&S. I can understand it in an empty body where you can’t be seen, and may get a bucket of something dropped on you. We had a driver banned after he got up to shovel a one sided load over, as he didn’t think it was safe to drive with it like that, and not safe to tip it off and reload. He was on top of the load in full view of everyone…sorry driver against H&S banned for life from that place.

Shutup we arent all like that. You dont always get a “residue” when tipped neither.
One of our artics came in with a ■■■■ poor example of loading; Type 1 piled up in the middle of the trailer, all to one side. I pushed it as level as I could…and kept well away while he tipped. His second load was much the same but less one sided. Problem with many shovel drivers is they’ve never driven lorries so axle weights, load stability, mgw tolerances (“it’s only half a ton over”) etc…

Throw it into a couple of bends and brake suddenley(spolling), level load but a tadge overweight on the front axle
Those that have never done bulk dont have a clue.Rates are rubbish they pay per tonne so the driver needs to do as many loads as possible. The merchants dictate the prices for haulage so you either do it or they find someone who will.Local bulk work rates average from £4 to £7 per tonne with most tippers being able to carry 29 tonne so you work it out and you will see why most chase it.Nobody i know is on percentage for bulk work its all hourly pay.Do 3 loads at £4 per tonne its £348 which isnt alot.Need i carry on!

Prime example of someone never doing bulk before, type 1 doesnt move like wheat ore ■■■■ does so it wont mov much if at all
A lot of the trouble stems from using muckshifting wagons to carry aggregates. Muckshifting bodies are smaller so a level load can be put on without overloading. Load shingle on one with a loading shovel and the load will pile up above the sides, hence aggregate bodies tend to be deeper but aren’t much use on muckshifting due to their lighter construction and the fact that if you level fill it you’re looking at a large fine for overloading.

working on a motorway roadworks job is the worst job in the world possibly,
but have you ever tried pulling out from an exit on a motorway job that is in the central reservation? especially when its raining/dark or both, and the site speed limit is 15 mph and rigidly enforced? believe it or not when looking in n/s mirror trying to judge distance of oncoming traffic -usually 50 mph and you are pulling into live fast lane on three lane motorway is not very pleasant at all,and its mostly from a standing start that we are pulling out.
oh and despite strobe lights fitted to rear of chassis,“works vehicle” stickers on tailboard,we are still invisible for some reason.
and as for doing "what i like with my yellow light and high viz jacket " ,would you care to elaborate?
I can vouch for the “pulling out of the central reservation” bit as I did some work on the Wolvercote Viaduct replacement on the A34. You could ring for an ■■■■■■ vehicle to come along and slow the traffic down but everytime I rang, it either went to answerphone or was ignored.
yes if you want, dont pull out infront of me when ime doing 50 through the road works, you have to give way not just pull out if that meens waiting then wait, you dont have a god given right because you driver a tipper to pull out infront of me,who died and put tipper drivers in charge?you are governed by the same laws as the rest of us but you decide to ignore them and cause mayhem behind you,if its not safe to pull out WAIT

But most tipper drivers are ■■■■■ though, and seem to have about as much road sense as hedgehogs.
