Karma’s a funny old thing. Had a load of bagged stone to a building site near Bristol this morning. Pig of a place to get into, tight turn round and reverse down to the loading point, took me a good ten minutes of ■■■■■■■ about shunting and moving bloody cones. Managed to bust a plastic manhole cover, got three out of 25 bags off when the forkie pipes up that I might have to move out to let two tippers in.
Not bloody likely says I they can wait. Forkie goes to speak to site manager, comes back says okay that’s fine. Finally got tipped, just driving out when the site manager stops me. Here we go thinks I, bollocking for holding the job up and busting the manhole…but he’s all smiles.
“Thanks for that”, he says. “Those bloody tipper drivers have been ■■■■■■■ me off for weeks, theyve got a crap attitude, they turn up early before the site opens and I get complaints off the neighbours. I’ve been waiting for ages to get my own back on the buggers!”

Brilliant, they do seem to think they own the roads…
never been a tipper driver but from the job adverts i see lots of them seem to be on peice work. I thought it was illegal to have a pay structure that encouraged racing around

i know of someone that did it for a short while and the gaffer had a word asking why he was only doing x number of loads when others were doing 2 or 3 more. turned out the drivers getting the extra work were slipping the transport officer a bottle or two and getting all the easy tips were the guy doing less was getting all the privet addresses

It is, but people find ways around it, like calling it an “attendance bonus” or “punctuality bonus” and other little dodges.

When you pulled out of the building site, did you give the old “scratching the side of your face with your middle finger” to the tipper drivers? lol.
Certainly not…but I suspect they were doing it to me!

I want to drive a mixer, as I always get told
We’ve got concrete coming
I usually reply that they’ll have to keep their red carpet rolled up just a little bit longer.
Yes we get this chestnut whilst craning a 24 block modular buying in place. My answer is "tough luck, it’s a lift zone and nobody including mixers are coming through ". Usually ends up in an argument with us ending up playing the health and safety card and threatening to call of the lift lol
