Tiny Tail lift hell

Had a brand new bodied rigid yesterday with a STUPID short tail lift on it. You could barely fit a standard size pallet on there, overhanging the lip slightly and scraping the back of the truck on the way down, certainly no room for the pallet truck.

Was unloading and saw a new 7.5 tonner with one on too so I went over to ask the driver what it was about and he said he had no idea but it was making his life hell too, and their depot had taken delivery of 5 new vehicles all with them on, all hated by the drivers.

Anyone got any idea why it seems to be the fashion on new models? Took twice as long to unload with it, carefully balance pallet on the end, drop it, take pallet truck out, put that to the side, etc etc ad infinitum

made by a european firm, who only know pallets that are “euro pallets” (rectangle) not “uk” (square), would a euro pallet fit on the lift? with the longer side running parallel with the width of the vehicle

also the tail lift might be smaller to save weight and also to prevent overloading of the lift?

May be Europallets or simply designed for cages

Obviously ordered by a brainwashed bean counter who doesn’t understand tail lifts.
