from October this year new legislation will mean all new trucks will have to be fitted with EBA (emergency brake assist) and lane departure warning system.
Really…?

Well I don’t know about anyone else but I for one am looking forward to cooking pasta alle vongole and watching old episodes of the sopranos while the lorry drives itself down the m6
Don’t some of the Flip Flops do that now ?
Noticed one the other day, feet on the dash, he was almost horizontal in his seat, thought he must be having a nice relaxing drive. Thank god he’d got past me, didn’t fancy him up my rear !
i am amazed with all the tech they have in today’s driving world, that no bright spark didn’t think to make the drivers seat more like a comode, just think of all the lost hours a driver spends having to find somewhere to park up for a toilet break ?
if they had a comode and sitting on it they could go while they carry on working, now that would be progress and save company’s a lot of money.
i wlll give this idea away free to the world of driving as my gift to all the drivers. just like that bloke gave away the internet idea for free. no need to thank me lads for such a smart idea as we all know how bad it is when we are bursting to go and stuck in traffic etc

Looks like we don’t need to worry just yet!
Apparently, four from 48 had accidents (8%), but they’re blaming two on human error! If humans can still have accidents, whats the point of a self driving car? IMO, big can of worms when it comes to apportioning blame. Some of the stats are interesting, they tested the cars over 150k miles, the equivalent of ten years driving and so aren’t too worried. My lorry is 18 months old and has that many miles!
PS since it’s the Mail, the comments, are as usual, the best bit.
Not to distant future perhaps but reckon taxi drivers are worried. Your phone will have an app for your car to come and pick you up.
Wonder if drink / drive laws will be altered so you can be off your ■■■■ as long as the car is in self drive mode.
Wont be long before the cars computer goes postal and sees cyclists as an unnecesary road user, que 2025 news headlines of cyclist getting killed by self drive vehicle.
I used a Landrover Defender in afghan, that was a R.O.V, I would tow it until it needed to be deployed then remotely operate it via a controller and computer, it was like a OTT remote control toy car, (over priced too), once finished all I had to do was press a button and it would drive it self back to the rear of my truck and I would then reattach it and continue with my job,
The ROV was crap, a lot of the time it done nothing, or there was a problem with the systems, the sensors got water inside them or dust was covering the sensors, or even simple things like sensors reading the temp would become faulty and the ROV would just stop for safety and shut down, IMO it was a waste of time it put us at risk more than it helped us… and that was with a military budget,
as for the trucks a big investment is needed to make it work well, but I would like to see them on long haul at nights.
you wont see many speed cams running thru nevada chaps in that freightliner cascadia /but prob have few probs with good ol state troopers seeing that rolling along with 53 foot trl and no driver. also weigh scales which u have to pull into and hope u get the green light
