Tilt Test

Been off now for 5 weeks after having some nasty fainting feelings which seem to have cleared up, the doc has put me on happy pills and thinks that my troubles are anxiety related.
My 4 year old son was diagnosed with type one diabetes last year, and ive taken it pretty hard (i know its not the end of the world, but when your kids are ill its hard to take in).

anyway, long and short of it is, ive been refered to a cardioligist, which i seen today, to rule out any chance it could be heart related.
Ive had a blood test and ECG done by the GP.
I had a 24 hour ECG last week
I had another ECG today
I had a echogram today
Blood pressure taken more times than i care to remember.

No faint turns since before xmas, the anti d’s seem to have lifted my mood a great deal, and the GP said, that if the cardioligist found nothing, then i could go back to work.

He said to me, that all the tests have been ok, and he doesnt think that he is going to find anything wrong with my heart, however, due to strict guidlines, because of my HGV entitlement, i have to have two more tests -

Tilt test
7 Day ECG

Waiting time, about 6-8 weeks :frowning:

I just want to get back to work, i appreciate, they are bieng thourough, and i could cause alot of damage if i were to pass out at the wheel.

Now to the point

Anyone had a Tilt test, any experiences?, i dont like what im reading about trying to induce these faint feelings etc?

No idea Gurner.

Only tilt test I’ve heard of is when they bring a new motor out and they tilt it to see what angle it reaches before it tips over.

Never heard of people being tilt tested. :open_mouth:

Hope it goes OK for you though, and that you’re back out there very soon fella.

From what ive read, they basically strap you down to a bed horizontal, then lift you to about a 70 degree angle, and leave you there for about 45 minutes whilst monitoring blood pressure and heart etc.
All this is done in a dark, warm room aswell i think.
They try and bring the fainting feelins on, to see whether it could be heart related problem or not !

P.S Statuory sick pay ■■■■■ lol

Some people would pay a lot of money to be treated like that!!!

Do you get a gimp mask to wear as well!!

Well, i did take a fancy to one or two of the nurses

Thought that meant a strip out in a force 10

Seriously though good luck

You’ll have a heart attack if you have to do a tilt test. They give you a big metal stick with a hook on the end and you have to pull cords out the trailer all the way around, and then, pull back the canvas. Then use the metal stick to push up the wooden slats. In the meantime the forkie is doing his nut in waiting for you! If you pass this then you are sound, or dead from the neck up, whatever takes your fancy !!!

Was my first thought.

However just watch CSI and they put a lad on a tilting bed and monitored him as they tilted the bed into the upright position and then the lad fainted. I also think they were injecting adrenalin, this would make sense as it cause the blood to go to the limbs to allow you to run from sabre toothed tigers. However that was the telly, so don’t believe it all and I hope all goes well with both you and your lad.

I had an ECG and a lung capacity test a few weeks ago both were fine , still got the chest pains but they have no idea why.

My wife had unexplained faintings for many years, no amount of tests found the cause. At different times she was starved for 24 hours while having blood samples taken every hour, stuck all over with sensors while artificially hyperventilated (encouraged to breathe rapidly) to induce unconciousness and goodness knows what else. But never a tilt test. The incidences were starting to get less anyway but she hasn’t had a single ‘episode’ since giving up alcohol 2 years ago, following 5 weeks treatment in hospital.
Is alcohol an issue Gurner?

Nope i hardly drink to be honest, the odd can at the weekend and thats about it.

I had an appointment letter today for 15/06/2007 :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Got on the blower, and am waiting for a cancellation hopefully sometime soon.
