Thumb Breaker.

Who fitted and still use these ( zb)s? :unamused:

I always had one on the e series erf and the ec because the steering was so easy . I was doing a lot of rdc work and i found them easy for backing on the docks . never bothered on the fodens , the steering was too heavy so there was no advantage . Bit like marmite , love em or hate em . dave

A couple of our lads fitted them to their Foden eightleggers but whenever I had to drive them I took the blooming things off. I got cracked across the wrist far too many times!

Pete.

Steering knobs - suicide knobs - invalid knobs - thumb breakers. I hated them with a vengeance and removed them from any lorry I drove for more than one day. You’ll find endless threads on the UK drivers forum doing this subject to death - one went on for several pages. There were very few drivers who defended them, some of whom only appreciated them for manoeuvring in yards. Robert

Hi Robert, I never had them fitted on our motors, But they were good for what they were designed for , Fork Lift Trucks & JCBs, Where the the operator could use the Hydraulics & stear Etc, Regards Larry.

Good point, Larry. They were invaluable on a forklift truck! Robert

Also on farm tractors, where the combination of power steering and wet ground meant you could spin a plough around with no effort at all. I never fancied trying one on a lorry, though.

Well ROF, I did a trip in a Scania artic for a mate of mine some years ago and it had one of the Knobs fitted, Well I found it was easier to use it because it got up the old boiler suit sleave if you didn’t,

s These were OK for fork lifts tractors and the likes of, But I do see a lot of young drivers in HGVs with them fitted, So I surpose that’s progress, ?,Regards Larry.

I think I read a previous post stated they were illegal on public roads, and had to removed when the vehicle was undergoing its annual test?
