So 40 tonne of garbage times maybe 10000 units per day on the M6 alone doesnt cause road damage and yet car,van and motorcycle users subsidise this garbage when that money could be put into a rail system with local hubs and local distribution networks and get this lumbering polluting rubbish off the highway.Trains run at 80% efficiency trucks at under 30% .Get rid of the crap

I don’t disagree, but it’s irrelevant to the subject. Trucks from the local Manchester distribution centres would be on the M60, in fact there would probably be more truck traffic than there already is going in & out of them.
Back on topic… More details of how, what, when from tonight’s MEN.

But if all this “garbage” was taken off the road, where would a star like you go to spout trailer loads of b/s ? Oh hang on, you’re probably a master mechanic/engineer for all things railway too.

More than likely a model railway enthusiast who goes into his shed or up into his attic to go play train drivers with his train set
Got to admit i dont give a ■■■■ if i am doing 56 46 or 26 or stopped dead .Listen to the radio and collect my pay at the end of the week .

Oi ! I play with model trains. I can see your point though, there are some right tossers in the hobby.

You got to laugh havent you.You pay your road tax to keep the big lumbering pieces of crap rolling up and down our motorways(which do most of the road damage) then the stupid moaning buggers bleat when they have to repair the roads they chew up!
Why cart containers from Felixstowe to Manchester by road when you could do it by train cheaper, reduce road damage and stop these bleating bloody truck drivers whining about all the bloody road works.
Just put the buggers on the dole and free up the highways,When was this anything to do with road damage caused by trucks? The works are happening to increase capacity/improve traffic flow on the motorway due to the vast increase in largely car traffic over the years. Sit in the bottle neck on the M60W on the approach to the M62 and count the number of cars vs trucks… removing the trucks from the equation would hardly solve the problem.
I’m all for getting freight onto the railways where possible, but if they built a train line that ran from Felixstowe - Manchester the containers would still need moving onto customers premises from the hub. This movement will always largely require a truck going on the road & that truck will in all likelihood need to use the M60.
Increase capacity for what more bloody crap trucks.Get the garbage off the road.

Why cart containers from Felixstowe to Manchester by road when you could do it by train cheaper, reduce road damage and stop these bleating bloody truck drivers whining about all the bloody road works.A lot of freight DID used to travel by rail, but started to fall into decline in the late 1950’s due to competition from the road transport industry. The Beeching cuts in the 1960’s resulted in many rail lines being closed, with an even bigger reduction in rail freight.
In the meantime road traffic has increased dramatically with the increase on car ownership and the fact that people commute further to work than they ever did. Children being driven to school rather than walking and everyone driving all over the place to do their shopping. The road networks as a result end up choked with traffic in many areas with far more wear and tear on the roads than was ever intended. As a result of all this, the congestion, the endless roadworks and subsequent delays are only ever going to get worse in the future.
And lets not forget a load of bloody trucks running round as good as empty or 2 or 3 pallets on board.
You shouldnt go “shopping” because you got to make way for some 44 tonne piece of crap running empty at 13 tonne scratting round for a couple of pallets to offset the diesel to get home.
If “Hauliers” laugh got their ■■■■■ act together instead of being the usual greedy selfish ■■■■■■■■ they have always been and shared the money between themselves and paid their drivers a decent rate of pay then maybe we may make a bit of progress and every bugger would win .But you know that the greedy SOBs in haulage just give a ■■■■ about the bottom line not the poor buggers who do the work and earn the money`
and so it begins lines of cones along the hs from Rochdale to Worsley along with a 50 limit imposed no fixed cameras yet but a few scamera vans on bridges getting a lot of custom as nobody appears to be heeding the limit .
oh and keep your eyes peeled for the silver long wheel base vw caddy with a few extra airials that is the new stealth car for the motorway plod sneeky buggers

Scamera vans on the bridges? I’ve been doing 70 or so in my car up and down there everyday, the lanes aren’t narrowed and there’s no work being carried out so why the restriction? OK, the hard shoulder is coned off but you see that all the time without a speed limit change.
Any HATO reps wish to clear the air?
Forgive me, but I just don’t see the need to be tootling along at 20mph less in apparently pretty normal motorway conditions, with no one in sight carrying out work.
Any one wonder what the Berlin type wall is that is being constructed next to junction 18 of the M62.
Well its another bird brained idea from our friends at the so called Highways Agency spending £2.5 million on a 12 month trial (£7000 a day) to see whether these barriers can disperse harmful emissions.
You just couldn’t make it up could you!!
All it needs are trees planting on the embankments but oh no the unaccountable Highways Agency love to burn tax payers money.

They are hamstrung by EU environmental legislation which means you can pretty much build what you want in areas where there is a low population/good air quality ie ■■■■■■■■ Up the A1 etc rather than where the traffic growth is. It’s a political sop to get the scheme on the ground.

And when the leaves drop and block the drains you get flooding esp on the new ALR and lose the noise protection 6 months a year especially in urban areas full of Nimbys.
If i had my way there would be 1 or 2 rows of evergreen conifers between the Cway and and other trees.
An article in the Manchester Evening News. ‘Drivers mystified by limit on 17-mile stretch of M60’
Until November most of the work is done overnight by 40 people to gather intelligence on the existing network and the legal and cost implications of removing the 50mph limit during day would be too much.
I guess nobody here is doing nights? I do a run from Howden down to Radlett. A1M is shut in two places so have to go down the M1. That’s got a load of roadworks from M18 to J28 then I get a bit of time off until Catthorpe Interchange and then its roadworks to Northampton. J22 M25 has been closed half the week on all sliproads so we’ve had to use an “unsuitable for HGV” route into the place. (only unsuitable cos residents don’t like lorries)
On the way back assuming the M1 isn’t shut its a lottery as to whether or not you can make it onto the M18 which in turn is shut at various points and next week the eastbound entry onto the M62 is closed as well and also the M62 is going to be closed in both directions around the A1 to A19 junction.
Every single night I have to look at Traffic England to work out whether or not its possible to do the job. Just checked tonight and need to start 15 minutes earlier than booked in order to beat the M62 westbound closure at Goole.
If you think you have it bad its 10 times worse on nights.
There is a night closures thread HERE
Screen shot taken at 3am on a typical week night.
An absolute joke!
Its a lot worse than that picture this week and next. Southbound they now have the M1, M6 and A1 shut simultaneously in the Midlands. How the hell anyone is expected to get anywhere is beyond me. Last night they changed my run from Radlett to Lockerbie and I couldn’t have been more thankful.
