Two men and a woman have died after their car collided with a lorry just before midnight last night. Police said the men aged 25 and 23, and a woman aged 20, died at the scene when the Yaris hit a Mercedes HGV in Stanwell, Surrey. Another woman, 25, is in hospital in a serious condition. Their next of kin have been informed. The crash happened at the junction of Bedfont Road and Long Lane at 11,39pm.
A witness told the Daily Mail the scene was like a ‘war zone’, adding: ‘They had no chance, the car was doing at least 80 miles an hour as it pulled out of the junction into the path of the lorry.’
Bloody awful situation for all involved and their families.
On a side note, what qualifies the witness to specify what speed either of them were doing, ‘80mph’ they said, that is pretty specific.
People should either be a bit less specific or shut the ■■■■ up, it could technically, and broadly speaking be the difference between somebody going to jail or not.
In a far less serious situation, I remember years ago overtaking a car safely and legally on a wide back road, plenty of room, but for some reason the old guy pulled on to the grass verge, flashing his lights at me and sounding the horn.
I pulled in further up the road and asked him what the problem was, …He said I put him off the road which was complete ■■■■■■■■, and that he was going to ring my boss (phone number on door)…it was my own truck.
He later rang me telling me, ‘‘One of your drivers forced me off the road and he was doing about 100mph’’ …and this is what you’re up against.
‘‘Witnesses’’ should watch what they say imo, especially in serious rta.s such as this.

Rob, I had a similar situation to you many years ago, the " lady" who worked in our own office! reported me to the depot manager, ‘quote’ I don’t know what speed he was doing but, he was driving so fast I could not get past him. The boss, the late Bill Gallimore called me into the office with my tacho card. He asked the “lady” where this had happened and what the speed limit was?
She replied with the location and I don’t know what the limit is there. Bill gave her a right roasting there and then, saying, you don’t know the limit but he was driving far too fast, why were you trying to pass him? The speed limit is thirty and that’s what his tachos said he was driving at . This “lady” had a run in with the traffic cops a week or so later, they followed her into the depot and asked why she didn’t stop when the put the blues on for her speeding in a thirty limit? Her reply? Oh, I only look in that mirror to check on the grandchildren in the back!
I loved it when I heard the story! 3points and failing to stop magic.

Don’t think anyone could possibly negotiate that junction in Long Lane at 80 mph.I do think the issue of young drivers/passengers casualties often has a lot more to do with the crash worthiness of the types of micro cars that insurance companies force them into. The damage to the truck doesn’t look like the result of an 80 mph collision nor even the car.Given something like an old E Class Merc as in so many other cases that might have been easily survivable.
looks like it was a hybrid yaris on a personal plate , id guess it was going fast. cars on personal plates Do tend to do risk taking more than the average joe, in my experience

Yes and any decent lawyer would have that done and dusted in court in a matter of minutes. What speed you think a vehicle is doing can have many factors, and as a pedestrian your still or moving at about 3mph so even 50mph would seem very quick if something suddenly shot past. How many buildings are around and other street furniture and parked cars? If it’s a big open area then if something seems fast it probably is going fast, if it’s a congested street then the speed can be just your perception in relation to how fast it’s passing objects. Ever seen a big Boeing 747 jumbo jet flying low? They often look like they aren’t moving at all yet even in slow speed flight will be somewhere between 140mph and 200mph. It’s because your eyes have no reference points in the sky for the brain to see movement and guess a speed. So your correct that nothing qualifies these witnesses to guess a vehicle speed other than say in their opinion it seemed very fast.

That’s one hell of a generalisation there bud, bordering on pure ■■■■■■■■ tbh.
I have a private plate, my Mrs has a private plate, I have a couple of mates with private plates, and even my old man has a private plate.
I can definitely speak for myself,.and in fact the rest of them, that none of us/them drive like dicks.

It turns out that the the three people killed were British Airways cabin crew, the airline has said.
The two men, aged 25 and 23, and a 20-year-old woman who died at the scene - along with a 25 year-old woman in a serious condition in hospital - are all believed to have been friends.

A bit like saying everybody who drives black cars are criminals, or something equally as ridiculous.
I do deny it btw, mines more of a ‘Flash Rob’ tendency.
This sad .Why do people assume the speed.During my coach days i had a passenger sitting at the front phoning the office that i was doing 100 mph.She even sent a picture .The whole office were in stitches when they realised 62mph.I did see her a few weeks later and told her to move to the back incase i start speeding again
This discussion is kinda relevant to this other recent thread that was discussed, and illiustrates the potential type of idiots and tossers that are ‘Professional witnesses’ and snouts in the form of traffic Marshalls .
Ok maybe not in the context of the o/p and this particular tragic incident,… but you get my drift.
Do you really want these types putting the boot in and testifying against you?

So sad so young thoughts are with the family
Yep, it makes you think, and puts what you think are problems, and other stuff that is important to you at the time, into perspective, especially when you have kids of similar ages to the ones that lost their lives.

Yea I’ve had that too. Trying to explain it was 100km/h that she was seeing was a waste of energy.

I would not have bothered to try, I’d just say ‘‘I need the speed’’ , lean back and give a loud manic laugh, and watch her crap herself.

When I was driving buses here in Oz, I was waiting to turn right at a set of lights. A minibus was coming the other way, also turning right. I realised the she wasn’t going to stop and blew the horn trying to stop her because I’d clocked, of all things, a V8 Rover coming up my nearside to go straight on. This silly cow just went round straight in front of the Rover, and splat, he Tee boned her. It turned out she was driving other peoples kids to day care and pre school. I could see some of the poor little buggers bouncing around like peas in referees whistles.
Anyway it went to court with me as a witness and this ■■■■ of a solicitor (presumably from her insurance company) kept on and on about how fast was the Rover going, and keeping my cool which was a jeffing challenge I just kept saying that I couldn’t tell, which I couldn’t with a split second sight of him in a convex mirror. In the end the Magistrate more or less told the tedious git to stf up.
Many years ago on my way to a night shift a member of cabin crew had just finished work from a long haul flight and she went straight through traffic lights and wiped my car out.
