Thought it was all over!

Was driving up the A1 this morning at about 0600 around jc 37 ish. I was about to overtake a few waggons, when a 18T rigid indicated to pull out, there wasn’t a safe distance but he pulled out anyway, no issue I just knocked off the cc and made a safe distance.
The rigid overtook the 2 waggons in front and pulled in. Then I was back on it, I was over a cab length past the first waggon, when all of a sudden he starts coming over (no indication or prior warning) so I move over as far as I can without going onto the central reservation (thinking he’s reaching for his sarnies/drink/phone/falling asleep) yet he’s still coming. I jumped on the air horns for what seemed like ages and he eventually pulls back into lane 1.

I don’t know if it’s relevant of not but he was driving a left hooked and had his curtains pulled over half way across his windows like the frilly curtain crew do, maybe this made it so he couldn’t see his mirrors, I don’t know?

One things for certain, it was VERY close and could have been a huge mess.

Sounds like a squeaky bum moment!

Had a couple of less drastic incidents this morning on the A15 within 10 minutes of each other, first one, impatient car driver (or blind, I can’t decide which) overtook me with a car coming the other way no more than a truck length ahead of me, luckily it was the slightly wider part with the chevrons down the centre so the other guy managed to pull right over and avoid a head on.

2nd one coming off caenby roundabout, numpty pulling a caravan came past and when he saw the car coming other way, pulled in sharpish nearly taking my bumper with him :open_mouth: I only drive a premium, so ■■■■ knows why he would want that, oh well.

Seems to have been a morning for it, though My incident this morning was in no as squeaky bum as the previous accounts, just seems like all the numpties were on the road this morning.

Westbound A14 at Kentford coned down too 1 lane. I was following (but not tailgating), what turned out to be a road sweeper, all off a sudden on go his beacons, and He’s swung to his right into the works area, in the proccess knocks 2 road cones straight into My path, I do some heavy breaking, but its no good, a road cone gets it :open_mouth: , in a last ditch stand before its demise, the road cone puts a hole in My bumper :unamused: . I pulled over once I’d come off the A14 (to follow overnight diversion through Kentford) and wrestled what was left off the road cone out from under My Truck

I nearly bit my finger eating a mars bar, does that compare

It must be something about the a1 today. I was coming down it just now, in the coned section by j15, pooling along at 49, minding my own business, when a range rover crawled past in lane 2, with a Marks Driver Services artic glued to his back bumper. When mds aimer had decided he wasn’t going to be able to push the rr any faster, he just swung into lane 1. Wouldn’t have been a huge problem, if I hadn’t still been there, with his trailer overlapping my unit by about 18".

Luckily I’d finished my DVD and put down my coffee, so managed to stand on the brakes and horn in time and just avoid losing the corner of the unit.

Didn’t seem to bother him though as he just carried on bowling down the road diving in and out at random. Was carrying a box, so probably had an urgent vbs to meet at fxt!

That stretch of the A15 is terrible! I live just of Caenby Corner travel it every day to and from work, was driving north on it only last week in me own car on me way home at about 1900 with a long row of wagons heading southbound as is the norm when one artic decided he’d had enough of being in the queue and decided to overtake with only a few hundred metres between him and me, having two artics driving towards you on a two lane road is certainly a great cure for constipation! Luckily my brakes and sticking the nearside of my car on the grass was enough for him to miss me by inches, pretty sure anyone with slower reactions (kids, elderly, the wife) wouldn’t of had a chance!

And is it me or do tractor drivers on that stretch have a different highway code? I’ve lost count the amount of times they pull out or pull off the road with not a hint of indication with vehicles going everywhere in their wake? I know the visibility in them isn’t great (even those which don’t have s**t all over the windows) but surely that should mean you would drive more carefully not just pull out and hope? Or they could drive in the fields that their trying to get to and are next to the road anyway, its not as if their vehicles cant cope the terrain?
