Those Crazy Regulations

I’ve done 78 hours driving for the fortnight so far while another driver at our place has done 84.

He cannot do a run to Hamburg he was scheduled to do beginning tomorrow because it needs 9 - 10 hours driving tomorrow, you could get away with 8 but more makes the following day easier.

The strange thing is I can do 10 hours driving tomorrow following a 37 hour weekly rest but he can’t following a 61 hour weekly rest, and I’ve already driven more hours then him this week. Gotta love those crazy rules. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you doing the drive tomorrow?

It does make you wonder about the logic of the fixed weekly driving limit and the two fixed weeks driving limit when a driver can’t do a run even though he’s had far more rest than a driver who can.

Still I doubt you’ll be complaining

Of course, one of the benefits of knowing the regulations, you can bin the not so good week and nick a good week. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

The driver had said he could do the run then spoke to me to ask about fortnightly driving totals, he was wrongly thinking having a weekly rest cleared his totals and someone else, jimboy124, had told him he was wrong so he called me for conformation. He then phoned boss who had sorted all the work with the news he couldn’t do it. I then volunteered to sacrifice my Sunday for about 14 hours at double time to solve the problem, he gratefully accepted this solution to his headache. Result! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Me? Never. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

The 90hours fortnightly or 2week driving limit is one piece of legislation i truly hate with a passion-if i had the power to abolish any law in transport i would scrap this ludicrous piece of legislation and give drivers the flexibility to drive 56hours every fixed week.
Dont get me wrong i have always respected drivers hours legislation as best as i can but i feel its a very inflexible law for international drivers to adhere to-at times even when a run is planned to comply with the 90hours limit a planned return load can be cancelled and a driver may have to run some considerable distance for another load which could make all the difference between being able to do a run within the 90 hours limit legally or not be able to do it at all.
In what other industry can you be prosecuted for working too hard!!

i understand were your coming from but if that happen there be 50.000 HGV drivers out of work with in weeks cos employers would make the driver work to the max no matter what it is and in doing it would mean companies would not required as many staff

the 90 hour drive limit was brought in to give a fare playing field for staff and employer as there would need more staff to do the work as less could be done

if an employer was give a new reg tomorrow and it was 56 hour drive per week ever week there would work you to it and still only pay you the same, the only one that wins if there more driving hours in a week is the employer
