I used to work for exel logistics in Avonmouth about 20 yrs ago running out of merthyr for thorn lighting, anybody out there done the same. It was a great job doing scotch most weeks, when did they all shut down ? . Anybody with any kind of info out there ?
Don’t know anything about the Thorn lighting job but at Midlands BRS we ended up with their 40’ single axle vans which we used on a fibreglass insulation job. These trailers had the axle right at the rear and were a nightmare around towns.
I think Thorn lighting also had a place in Hereford, they may have come from there.

Cheers Dave.
used to do thorn lighting at brs stoke. trailer would come from Merthyr on night trunk.
we would go to manchester/ leeds, then to glass bulbs at harworth to load for the
night trunk back to merthyr. prob be about mid 80’s.
Did you lads who were on Thornlighting park in the Brs Oxford yard some nights ? . Im sure I use to see a wagon at the top of the yard mid week .
I was tramping all week out of Merthyr for Thorn Lighting. I would do a lot of r d c work as well as doing runs to Hereford, Leicester and also Romford where they had a depot, also we would pick up at various locations across the country at places where they made coloured bulbs and funny shaped bulbs. I would also go to councel depots delivering street lighting units too. Went to interesting places doing that job.
