I got a letter this morning saying im due a rebate for last financial year. Last one i had they sent me a cheque i put it in the bank and hey presto thee was the money. This time i have to go online and fill out a questionnaire then it takes 10 working days to go into my bank.
I remember few years back getting tax refund having apply online to get it
Past 2 years though had letter saying saying owe them £40 we will adjust your take code so you can pay it back weekly.
No big deal but had same letter 2 years running now.
God knows never understood it
I would urge caution. Ring your tax office up and ask them to confirm it’s them who have sent the letter.
I’m a grumpy old man, I NEVER fill in online questionnaires .
What letters and about what
Normal situation is you applying for assessment to see if entitled
Reply yes will arrive in bank shortly
They don’t check every ones account to see if they can give you back money
If wrong apologies me wrong
every year they check to see if you have paid the correct amount. otherwise someone could owe thousands.
Its quite simple realy they wrote to me saying i had paid x amount too much. as said that was a bit too much like we owe you a million from an african prince give us your details to pay you back.
so i went on my tax account on the .gov site that i have used for years and it too said i was owed the same amount.
the point of the post was since when have they started this online application cobblers rather than just sending out a cheque
