30 tele handlers wow. Is that how many you get to before you drop off. Beats counting sheep if your welsh.
I bet your one of these kinda fellas that goes to the registry office to see if it’s available for a celebrity a-list wedding.

this year is shaping up to be the best one out of the last 6 years. profits were well up last year according to the accountants — so it’s all good so far — the accountants are trying to save me more money - don’t know what they’re going to do this time round thought i’d seen it all last year…

i’ve got an order book that’s brimming to the point where i’ve actually taken the very brave and bold move of hiring an extra pair of mitts — never thought that i’d have enough work to do this :grimacing: :grimacing:

i’ve ended up with 3 jobs running side by side in manchester - the civil engineering project i’m on now that runs till sunday and a long termer that starts sunday night working with the railways and another housing job that’s a long termer that’s set for monday morning start

so with a bit of help from the guys and girls at the plant hire firm near here we selected a short list and i’ve taken the plunge with a newly qualified and fully bobcat trained tele flt driver and a hired in a 14mtr Bobcat tele flt for him to use cos i got it for a reduced fee :grimacing:

he is only having to service a new build housing estate with 7 gangs on it from day 1 – (blue r…sed and fly spring to mind) summat i’ve done a lot in the past — aren’t i kind to my new staff — starting wage £10p/h mon - fri (expecting him to do 50 hours which is normal), £15p/h sat morning (4 hours which is pretty much normal).
the contract is run like this he goes in does his job gets paid for 10 hours a day (£100p/d) even if he gets to finish early - 4 hours on saturday (£60) (total £560p/w minus tax and NI) and goes home there are no other schemes or benefits of any kind - the only thing that he’ll get is the company uniform black sweatshirt, white shirt, black trousers, CAT steel toe sneakers, white hard hat and a hi viz padded bomber style jacket — all logo’d up. put simply he works as a subbie contracted to my firm for the duration of the contract.

and to top it all off i’m still making plenty out of this job too :grimacing: :grimacing: it’s hell of a lot cheaper for me to do it this way and apparently all my extra costs like employers NI etc… can be offset against my tax liabilities (accountants for you) — happy days :grimacing: :grimacing:

got the boys at the skip hire firm involved as well for shifting my gear around well sorted move that suggestion was — just tied everything down onto the hooklifting flatbed and away it all went with no probs :grimacing: :grimacing:

after reading this

got a problem - need advice
by foxy stars » Thu Jan 10, 2013 7:52 am

I’ve been working for every man and his dog using just every type of truck out there for about 10yrs (i’m c+e) and cos the truck i’ve been handed the keys to (yet another 71/2 tonner getting work in anything else is scarce here) is a mess (again) - not my fault - I’ve decided to take the plunge and want to go it alone, I’ve not told anyone I work with yet about this and am not going to till iI hand in my notice.
I’ve sorted a rig and a trailer and a whole heap of work for said rig (it’s a scania 144 470 6x2 TAG topline t cab) but everyone I talk to says I got to get an O license to even think about running my set up.
I know the rules regarding tacho and the rules of the road and i’ve always done my own accounts and hmrc have never had a problem with them.
I spoke to a nice lady that says i gotta have transport managers qualifications as well as an operators cpc to go with my own dcpc — I don’t understand what’s going on or why I need to have these things as it’s going to be me and my dog in my rig hauling a trailer and that’s it. It’s not like I’m Eddie Stobarts running lots of trucks and trailers and stuff.
I registered my new company (“snoball haulage” - why snoball cos everything in my life ends up snoballing out of all proportion) with hmrc through an accountants, I keep a log of every job that I choose to go to and have never had any problems till now.
The guys at the insurance company can’t understand it either and the level of cover I got (fully comp £3775p/a) is amazing considering this is my first and probably only rig that i’ll ever have.

Any advice for me would be more than welcome

Is this just about taxing the heck out of solo operators to make sure that only the big boys can play ?

is it just me? :unamused:

OOOOH no not the 144 470 thread again pleeease no

No its not just you, - everone with half a brain can see he is on a wind up, so just ignore the troll

I hope things keep going well for you,but be warned,a year or so our yard was at bursting point with trucks, trailers, they were on about building more bays on the end of the building, maybe buying the land close by to build more warehouse space on,they were taking on more and more drivers, stacked with work, double the size of the BUISNESS :exclamation: a year or so on the chill is switched off, warehouse empty,93 made redundant, all the trailers dehired(70 odd at a guess),other than about 10 units the rest dehired.not in my wildest dreams would I of imagine
Someone, managers, etc, etc took there eye off the ball, they’d done all the hard work, could sit back and bask in the glory,a lot are now jobless,a lot of good folks gone,a token jest ure left for a month or two I’d guess,.
Keep your eye on the ball, very easy to think you’ve made it,very easy too see it all slide away

Hi Rob,

While you’re on, I don’t suppose you’d care to respond to points raised and questions asked in previous threads? The “snipe and run” technique is getting a bit predictable now and as you only need to sign on once a fortnight I’m sure “lack of time” isn’t really a valid reason.

well said mr monk

Oi Rikki, don’t come along here giving it all that ignore the troll stuff, Ive got first dibs on the worlds best driving job.
Your like the bloke that takes job adverts down off the canteen notice board so that no one else sees it.

Foxy, blimey we are on for some rapid expansion

30 tele trucks plus associated kit and 20+ skidsteers and associated kit going all over the place

I’m so glad I got in on the ground floor. Been thinking 1 rig won’t cover all this, I think we’ll need 2 or 3. As I was here first I’ll be foreman driver with the flagship blinged up T-cab rig(I will supply my own dream-catcher). Rikki if you’re desperate I’ll try and get you on the 8x4 shunter, but remember I’m number 1.

As No1 I will cover the prestige work, festivals, old trafford, buckingham palace and the like. Perhaps Foxy could upgrade my sneakers to brogues.

I know a guy, who knows a guy, that knows The Hedge from U2, so will sort out some tour work building stages
and that.

Don’t worry about operators tickets, I’ve got more tickets than a raffle book.

This time next year we’ll be millionaires.

P.S post a photo of your telehandler.

I have cpcs & cscs cards in date & blue telehandler card, if anyone wants to borrow them for this lucrative job pm me.
