C’m-o-n mate! So where exactly did you get the information…if not from the “Mainstream Media”… that “Changed your mind”?
It’s nigh on…if not… impossible to form an opinion on anything without some reference to it. Even academic researchers have to refer to some form of media… don’t they?
Not the media at all it became obvious that many workers and their supporters in government like Wilson,Callaghan and Thatcher were trying to pick and choose between socialism and capitalism to suit themselves.
To put it another way it’s understanding the difference between the basis of the US economy during the 1960’s compared to the British (and US) one of the late 1970’s to date.
I’m not aware of the British media at any time ever having made the type of case which I have for a Fordist economy within the capitalist system as existed in 1960’s USA,here at least since the 1970’s if not before.I have seen plenty of support for the status quo of the zb’d up mixture of socialism and capitalism which has existed here since the Wilson and Callaghan governments which Thatcher then took to new levels which benefitted the Chinese and Russian communist party even more.
OK.
But where did you get your information to form those opinions?
It would have had to have been from the MSM or other forms of broadcast media.
Now look 'ere “Solly” you don’t ask “CF” where he gets his opinions from, thats an insult to the intelligence of a man/lad of “CF”'s stature !! He forms his own, very well thought out, opinions on “current matters various” and once formed no-body, but no-body will deflect him from his percieved beliefs!!! He once argued that the back of the moon was, indeed, made of cheese !! and that Hitler and Elvis were travelling around the “bright side” of the moon in a London bendy bus,Hitler in the front bit and The King in the back !! If I was you I’d just have a trawl over “CF”'s previous posts, you have no chance trying to cross swords with the TN Champion,no chance at all !! Best of luck Bewick.
OK.

I’ve got to be honest, i wasn’t very impressed with this idea of getting the long term unemployed doing unpaid work, especially when they found a placement for my 22yr old boy. Whilst i agree with the principle of getting those on benefits to contribute in some way to society, i object to private businesses being the beneficiaries.
Now my eldest lad is not work shy, & has quite a positive outlook on life. I’ve seen him filling out application forms for jobs & scholarships etc, but, truth be told, having not worked for the past 2 years & with no sign of employment on the horizon (we live about 5 miles from Merthyr Tydfil), he was starting to give up.
He started his work placement on the Jubilee weekend a couple of weeks ago, 12hr shifts on the Saturday & Sunday, 24hrs work, unpaid. I was not impressed at all, i thought it was a massive ■■■■-take, free labour & no guarantee of a job at the end of his ‘trial’ period.
However, having said all that, just before he left for this evenings 12hr shift he informed me that he’s been offered a full time job with the company starting next Thursday, & he’ll be bringing in about £1,000 a month.
So, whilst i was initially sceptical about the idea of ‘work placements’, i’ve got to say that for my son it’s worked, he’s happy, even after i told him about the imminent increase in his rent.
It’s worked out good for your lad and that’s heartening…but as you hinted,if you think of the 100’s of 1000’s of hours worked for private business’ in that scheme by 1000’s of people like your lad… I agree…that’s a hell of a financial benefit to those companies… and all at no cost to them.
It’s just not on and it stinks IMO.
