This should make you think

Seen that in a speed awareness course that I attended made me think !!! and before you ask so far has slowed my driving down i try to stick to speeds now so these things can hit home !!

My son has just undergone “re-training” by Staffordshire Police for speeding in place of getting 3 spots on his ticket, that was one of the things they were promoting.

Yes it did make me think… but no more than usual!

The Victorian police used to really annoy me when they advertised that “Speed kills!” And the Pommie police still try an d convince people that speed is somehow fatal.

Speed doesn’t kill. If it did, at what speed do you die? Is it 20 mph? No, because we’ve all traveled at 20 mph and most of us are still alive… Is it 1000mph? Nope. There’s evidence of people traveling faster than that and still being able to enjoy their tea later in the day.

The problem, and it’s one that is rarely mentioned, is that people who speed in the wrong situations, the wrong circumstances, and with limited experience, and a lack of judgement, are the killers!

But that doesn’t make such a simple (if misleading) headline.

Sorry. I’ll get my coat now…

Just the same old, same old… I will be continuing to drive as I do, ie. an appropriate speed when some ‘appropriateness’ is needed and the rest of the time driving at a speed I feel comfy at, which is usually above the posted limit.

Scary indeed, I will continue to drive just under the limit (ie; 28 in a 30) etc.

+1 ^. :open_mouth: I’ve just agreed with RobK.  and the Germans also obviously still agree with that on those sections of autobahn still not subject to any limit..

The police always just seem to pick and choose which situations are likely to be a danger on the road and the speed issue is what their political masters want them to concentrate on to make sure that road speeds never get competitive with rail.In the context of that pc video why don’t we ever see any police advice given to highways authorities,to make junctions like this one safer, where traffic turns right across a dual carriageway, whereas the gap could be closed and the traffic could use the roundabout just a bit further down the road to return and turn left instead. :unamused:

Of course speed causes accidents, how many crashes are there between two stationary vehicles? I find this kind of thing a bit annoying; they choose 60 instead of 65, but it could be 50 instead of 55, 30 instead 35 etc etc… until we conclude that it is best just to stop and stay at home. It doesn’t help that nobody truly understands risk, like those people who will tell you you’re 17 times more likely to die on a motorbike than in a car, then can’t tell me how much risk I am in a car. If I’m at 0.000001% risk of dying in a car then I’m just at 0.000017% risk on a 'bike. However, if there is 1% risk of dying in a car…

Here’s a thought; would you be a dangerous driver if your speedo was disconnected?

Nope. If your’re keeping up with lorries, but cars are overtaking you - you’re doing 50-60mph. If you are passing lorries, and cars are passing you - you’re doing 60-75mph. If you see a car with his window open - he won’t be doing much more than 70mph. If you are blasting past everything with only 1 or 2 cars being in your speed range - your doing 90+mph. AND you’re probably going too fast

No speedo or air con working last summer when I went to Italy. But the rev counter definitely said 5,500 rpm with more than 30 mph per thousand rpm in top and the window was definitely open.

Have a look on motorways in this country tho’ - it’s usually a good rule of thumb  And in Italy, it’s a bit warmer

Youre on too much money Carryfast, holidaying in Italy and the Islands off Italy at that  You want to try a nice campin holiday down the road from me at Fleetwood at Windy Harbour, I can hear you sayin “I’d rather stick pins in my eyes”
