It’s like the blind leading the blind. I can just imagine the headlines.Truck wipes out 12 cyclists in one hit not only having wrongly adjusted mirrors they were also fitted on their arms upside down because the driver couldn’t handle the extra width of them when they were fitted the right way round. While all the cyclists would have survived anyway if they’d have been on the massive area of empty pavement at the side of the truck.
Mickey give the class one a miss if you have only just realised!

Why would I give it a miss? I drive a class 2 and haven’t been anywhere near a class 1. I don’t know what the spots are on an artic, or what you can, or cannot see. Different to a rigid I reckon? I know where my dodgy areas on my rigid. I bet there is more on an artic
But once again you post something that is a troll post to provoke a response. Get out and play on your little bike

The wide angle mirror looked like it was set in the wrong position/looking at the same as the standard mirror, he didn’t even film the kerb mirror (I wonder why ?- perhaps he might have seen a couple of them !) & he should have just Hooked a left & wiped them all outDoesn’t matter how much or how little room you leave in London (Cesspit !) someone will still try to get up the inside, outside, underneath or even over the top
I propose a new law-
In Circumstances where a cyclist has got him/herself in a Stupid position next to a Lorry ,the driver is allowed to wipe them out & carry on with his/her journey without even stopping to ‘Rob’ the victim.
Cyclist who carry out this act of Stupid’ness will be treated as Road Kill & be dealt with accordingly, ie:- someone can ring the council & they will send a Dustcart to collect the remains. The Bicycle will be either repaired or sold as scrap, with the proceeds going to the Lorry Driver/victim, so he can buy a few beers to celebrate another Brain Dead Inconsiderate Cyclist off the road.
Totally agree +1
i can remember driving to stone in staffordshire once in an arctic, just about to set off at a roundabout and out of habit had a glimpse at the left hand mirror and some nugget on a push bike was creeping up the inside of the trailer,it was so tight he was pushing himself between the kerb and trailer with one foot on the kerb, could’nt believe it.
The wide angle mirror as already stated, is set wrong , otherwise you’d see them.

They were talking about the number of fatal tipper vs cyclist accidents on the radio the other day. The contributors seem to think the high ground clearance and lack of side bars was a factor because there is nothing to stop them going under the back wheels. I think I won’t be too long before we see some sort of retractible sidebars on tippers.
Thats easy enough to do, fit two curtain ratchets, one behind the front axel and the other just ahead of the first rear axel. Run a small curtain down the side and ratchet it tight.
For those worried about motorway speeds, it would only really be necessary in cities and there is no reason why you cant pull over at the last services before the city and deploy the idiot protector.
It shocked me also, as well as the blokes poor positioning and the risk of the carnage that could be caused, he is being forced to drive a Foden!

Duck down Steve.
That’ll start the ‘Old Skool’ off !

I vote you as the New minister for Transport…any other good ideas
Torkey:
I’m more concerned about the mirror positioning…
Me too, that bllindspot mirror is only about 25% effective 'cos most of the view is the side of the truck. Here in cycle city, we have to go to fairly great lengths to ensure the safety of cyclists, many of whom are foreign students and a little unsure of themselves to say the least. It would be fair to say that some of them seem to have a death wish, the way they behave. But there you go, we can only go forward, carefully.

That positioning is about the right place for a left turn at that type of junction. The issues in this case seem to be that the set up scenario has totally missed the point that even with correctly set mirrors there are still places where they won’t always show the cyclist at the side and the most vulnerable point,in the case of artics,is when the angle between the unit and trailer increases as the thing turns towards an L shape at which point the mirrors are totally useless if anything gets along the nearside of the trailer at that point or gets within range of the tail sweep.
what a load of poop any good driver would of avoided it let em go or dont let em down side of you simples

They’d need to be more than just good to meet that all those criterea.Logically that would mean either avoid many left turns,and/or you’ll always see the idiot cyclist in the mirrors and/or you can turn an artic through a 90 degree junction leaving less room at the nearside than the width of a bicycle.
