F7? beautiful little wagon,we got chinese 6 tractor units to replace Scammell Trunkers, what a revelation, syncro 8 speed box, might have been small but they certainly performed well,so quiet you could actually hear the radio, and they were warm in winter, unlike most of our Scammells, and mine certainly travelled the country and never ever let me down,a class act for the time.
Now that’s sadly mostly a thing of the past that for some reason I really liked look of, the Chinese six!
Conor:
Should have asked them if you could take it for a quick spin around the car park. It’d only take that for you to realise things are much better now than they used to be.
I was tempted to ask if I could have a look around the cab but my shyness got in the way

My dad drove one in the 80s the reg was A123 *** I seem to remember, so when I took my class 1 after dad had passed I did it in a F7 with Stamford regional training. Lovely little truck.
I went to visit a haulier last year who did some work for me in the Wisbech area and they had a F7 and F10 which they were planning to do up, I wanted to jump in and have a drive.
basically a replacement for the 86, as said a great little workhorse unless like me at 6 foot 4 at the time was a bugger to get a good seating position without crouching down to have good vision…
luckily only had them on spot hire due to servicing on regular motor…

The F7 was definitely a ‘‘piece of ■■■■ to drive’’ , it was full synchro.
Drove a hire one for 6 months ,(TVH Darlington written on side) supposedly while my day cab 400 Sed Atk was getting engine rebuilt, (never did btw) it was like getting out of a farm tractor into a modern car in comparison…lovely little truck.
Yes with typical heavy slow synchro shift quality.Which ironically was actually more like the farm tractor as opposed to the pick of non sysnchro options.
Please tell us you’re not one of the lot who said oh great now I don’t need to do all that nasty rev matching of shifts just heave the thing down a gear requiring the strength of two arms and then let the clutch back in all without using the accelerator like a learner car driver.Happy days.
