This months T&D

In fairness, they face the same problem as Channel 5, there is just nothing interesting to write about any more. A 100 mile journey with some cream cakes is just not as exciting as the Long Distance Diaries of blokes doing the run to Saudi, which is what they used to write about 25 years ago.

We could do long distance diaries again, but there is one deciding factor that stops it …
simply expense, if we doubled the cover price then we could do a lot of things, but would you buy it at that price?

I can’t see how Long Distance Diaries would double the cost of T&D, most used to be written by the drivers themselves for a page rate of, IIRC, £25 a page.

Personally, I’m not interested in the loadspace of a Vauxhall Astra van, or the latest Waylon Jennings album and so I haven’t bought T&D for years.

This is “customer feedback”, take it or leave it

gotta agree with harry i to aint intrested in load space of a silly van or albums what half of the people havent even heard off,its gone down the pan big style

i dont buy it these days due to this fact, if i ever see a copy lying around i will take it with me just in case i dont have any toilet paper as this is all it is fit for these days wiping your [zb] with…

It’s not just T@D that appears stuck in a rut; Classic @ Vintage Commercials suffers with deja vu. Articles written in the same style; Brief history of manufacturer, when the model in the feature came out and when it was stopped, then the biography of the restorer plus a bit about how the restoration was carried out. Then, some letters featuring hazy memories, a few insurance adverts and another story based on the first one. Oh, and the classifieds and that’s it for £4.

There are so many more potential stories and items that aren’t being explored with the magazine. For instance, what about a feature on transporting the submarine sections around in Barrow?

The article could cover the loading of the boat, extra training for the driver, info about the prime mover, what special daily checks it needs etc etc.

Or how about sending someone going out to do a feature on the large convoys supplying NATO in Afghanistan through Pakistan. Could cover the route, how they go about their day to day jobs etc. I know some of it might be secret but surely something can be covered? A bit dangerous too, but then Ross Kemp was on the front line in Afghanistan with a whole film crew!

How about covering one of the large truck shows in the US? Cheap return fare £270, a couple of nights in a motel near the show, sorted.

Car Shows, Auto Events, Local Car Show

How about spending a day in the Volvo factory? Could spread the article over several issues, covering various aspects of the manufacturing process?

I feel that T&D should have (in no perticular order):

On The Job
To cater for those new to, or thinking about joining the industry (or changing job types within industry).

Training Centre
A 1 to 2 page article showing certain aspects of training. Whether it be how to hook up an artic, or how to load a car transporter. This could be sponsored by somebody each time who is connected to the article.

Fleet Focus
A couple of pages showing pics, and a history of sellected companies. Anything from Bloggs Logistics to Stobarts could be covered.

Truck Focus
A couple of pages showing photos and a full history of a certain truck, right from development, right to where they are now (scap yard, malta, current model (like FH12) etc). This could be any truck in history. Plenty of scope.

Truck Stop Reviews
In depth reviews showing truckstops and layby vans with pictures, directions, a few basic prices, and most importantly, driver feedback.

Web Watch
Funny things that have been posted on here that you think would be good in the mag.

The above is what I have thought about in the last 5 minutes. They do not need to be in every issue. You could have Fleet Focus (FF), Truck Focus (TF), FF, TF. FF. TF etc if needs be.

I’m going to start driving trucks for the odd day or two I’m not doing anything. I know, since I’ve got another job to fall back on, I’ll charge £25 a day. Should be a breeze.

That’s a fascinating photo, but I imagine the MOD would be totally non co-operative about it…

Addicted to driving a truck, finding ways to drive a truck,or thinking about going back to driving a truck sounds accurate in many cases though. ](http://insider.trucknetuk.com/viewforum.php?f=20)

I wonder if he might fancy knocking another one out, just for old time’s sake? Hmmm…

Its from BBC Technology (as acknowledged  ) If you type submarines and Barrow into Google the same pic comes up lots of times.

EDIT: Sorted.

Well Lucy, I’m surprised that you have described ‘idlewild’s’ pennings as crap, unless you were being sarcastic in some way, the 2 i’ve just read through where extremely interesting and funny and much better than some of the recent T & D content.

I’m going to read the rest of the content tomorrow but having already read a lot of coffee’s stuff will know that it is always a good read anyway.

‘Lucy’ I really can’t believe that you are calling ‘idlewild’s’ stuff ‘crap’ :open_mouth: :open_mouth: You have really surprised me with that opinion/comment.

I saw you had posted Harry and thought you may have accepted the gauntlet I threw down, you said yourself you could write some articles, surely you weren’t being an internet Rambo :unamused:

If I do a trip of any interest in the future, I will do a LDD of it and send it in. As far as going to Russia goes, it’s ten years since I last did a trip there so it’s a bit past its sell-by date.

No, not sorted. It matters not a jot where you got the picture from, who you credited or how many times it came up on google. If you nicked it from my website and credited me, you’d be in breach of my terms and conditions. Rather than just inventing copyright laws which clearly don’t exist, here’s a link to AP’s T&Cs: ap.org/pages/about/terms.html.

If you can’t be bothered to read all of it, article no.6 is the bit for you: "You may make a single print copy of any of the Materials carried by AP on this Web site for personal, non-commercial use only, provide that you do not remove nor cause to be removed any copyright, trademarks, or other proprietary notices or visual marks or logos from the Material… " This image use is clearly not under the heading of personal or non-commercial.

The BBC paid for the use of this image through a subscription service to AP’s newswires, which in itself does not give them permission to allow people to do whatever the hell they like with it. Just in you’re in any doubt, here’s a link to their T&C’s too: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/3281849.stm. "In accessing the BBC’s web pages, you agree that you may only download the content for your own personal non-commercial use.
Except where expressly stated otherwise, you are not permitted to copy, broadcast, download, store (in any medium), transmit, show or play in public, adapt or change in any way the content of these BBC web pages for any other purpose whatsoever without the prior written permission of the BBC… "

If you’d like me to, I can test the copyright laws to their fullest extent across the entire volume of this forum.

You seem to have overlooked FFS.

And just to be awkward, and to wind RobK,s Guardian Angel up. :unamused: :unamused: I,m surprised that she didn,t step in with her rolling eyes :unamused: :unamused: when Rikki referred to him as –

you remain nothing more than an internet warrior.

.-- (With which comment I am inclined to agree).
Or are her put-downs reserved solely for the likes of Gogzy. And me of course, for having the temerity to post this. :unamused: :unamused: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

If I’ve got something to say to Rikki, I find it’s easier to just ring him and say it, or say it across the room. Tends to get a quicker response.

I am, however, chuckling away to myself that you and Gogzy are taking what I say so personally. Most of it is aimed far more generally than that. Paranoia is a terrible thing… But then, if the cap fits wear it, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

ffs get off your high horse. you’ve just got the hump cos there is a thread complaining your photo’s in the magazine are crap. you tried something new and it has’nt worked so get over it. if you going to complain about copyright you can try every forum in this country if not the world, that should keep you busy for an hour or 2 :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
