This Is The Slow Down Then?

Only one shift this week!!

Just one of the perils of being an agency ■■■■■ I suppose.

It’s my first experience of the ‘quiet months’ how long should I expect it to continue? My agency said by the end of next week it will be back to normal…but they talk a load of bollox and I don’t believe a word they say!

No slow down if you ensure the wheel is kept greased with the right people.

I’m a full timer, and expected a quiet couple of weeks after the new year till things picked up. Wrong!!! From the first day back, we’ve been mobbed. It’s just like November and December all over again. If I’m not doing 2 runs of deliveries, its 2 runs of collections.

A full time job would be nice but I found that not many firms are prepared to take on new drivers, decided to gain experience via the agency route.

Ideally looking for a 4 on 4 off, night shift DC trunking job - any going in my area.

Last week sucked. Got stuck doing Micky mouse day runs.

Fully booked for next week but wrenched my knee this morning so just sitting around in ■■■■■■■ agony :frowning: crawl my way to the doc first thing Monday

Been on day drives last week, knackered I am, can’t wait to get back on the tramping, catch up on my sleep.

Oh sounds like it just me then.

this week was pretty busy, only one shift coming next week though

Usually goes quiet from mid January until Easter. Experience will enable you to know where the work is during the dark months.

Pester the agencies, but better to phone around local companies. Nothing ventured . . .

I would have made a grand if I had worked today. It’s been busy!

(Double time, self employed  )

As Norman Tebbit once said, get on your bike, or rather get in your car (equipped with copies of your CV, licences etc and dressed in smart working clothes as a lorry driver looking to work would dress) and when not working research an area and go round and show your face to likely prospects, and be prepared to start immediately if you drop lucky…ie that very moment.

Its the old way we used to get jobs before the frankly hideous virtual world arrived, and it still works, my present job was gained by my cold calling.

Some people dismiss the CV as unimportant, but where i am you will not be considered until they’ve seen it, don’t have one you won’t work here.

The life of an agency driver …
It goes quite post Xmas so don’t worry, but that’s to be expected if you plan for it.
Now is the time to chill with the £wedge you’ve earned and hit the beach & Thomas cook it

BTW I’m due to head to lisbon at the beginning of next month for the annual carnival at Sesimbra

Quiet where I work but the next few weeks are always quiet in the skip game normaly picks up about March when the diy and house renovations kick off.

Guess depends on the area. I took a week off and been rang three times asking me to do some shifts.

A pal of mine Is flat out at Asda, they have between 10-20 units parked up per day and cannot get drivers full time perm or agency for love nor money.

Think yerselves luck lads, I have done two weeks since the end of October, and was expecting to go back to work on Monday but been told nothing doing for another month !! then the boss man said to find myself something else for that month. Yes right I’ll get something else OK (■■) but it wont be for just a bloody month :frowning: wish to God I had never let my class 1 expire !!

70 hrs 15 mins this week, 3 nights out , 5 days , seems as busy as ever , it’s push, push ,I’m sure if they could get more hours out of us they would

The agencies I use are still advertising work on job sites but telling me they have no work is this normal? These are fresh adverts not old ones.

There is work, just not for you.
