Start 4 a.m ,tipped and job done by 8 a.m ,no more work on ISO - trac so ring in ,told to head to --------- , wasn’t convinced so rang that depot ,yes you must come here ,is there work there ? ,just do what your told .
So get there for 10 a.m ,planner on break so told to grab a seat ,he commes back and says have a break ,I don’t need one ,well just sit there ,but it’s a Saturday ,my last shift ,I want to go home ,just sit until your loads ready .
Sit in cab ,10.15 no manifest loaded message ,go in and ask every hour is work ready
,wait ,sit in cab with still same message ,no manifest loaded ,go and sit in t.o at 3 p.m .
At 15.30 ,are you still here ,well obviously ,do you want to go back
,we’ve no work for you ,just get yourself a empty tri .
So that’s 5.5 hrs sat there for nothing ,never was a load or it would of been on ISO- trac ,you then drag a empty tri back for nights to drag it back up .
Yet they’ve been bleating all week we’ve got drivers sat as we’ve no trucks at depot ,memo,s going up every 5 mins saying it costs £50 p.h to have a truck / driver sat ,extra break ,10 mins at services ,10 mins in a layby ,zb joke
What do you care, if you are payed per hour and not per mile
Buy yourself a dvd and a box set and a good book. If you have ■■■■ poor planners, which is apparent, it ain’t your problem, it’s the Chuckle brothers that need to sort it. (incidentally this does not exactly correlate with the image of ‘military precision planning’ as put across on the tv show does it,…surprise surprise )
As has been said you are being paid for it, so do as they have said in their inimitable style of man- management ''Just do what you’re told.
This industry makes no sense…
…nor does jacking in a job because your new truck isn’t your preferred make and model (see Renault T thread).
New Job?
I used to have this happen a lot, rung in once to be told they were having a meeting and will ring me back just stay were I am so that’s what I did 28 hours later the phone rang to see what I’m doing never happened again.

Robroy, surely to goodness you are not implying that the tv show was talked up and made to be hyped up with the intention of making joe “stobbies are the only company in the industry” public think they are like a well oiled machine, capable of transporting any kind of goods from the ends of the earth to their destination each and every time without fail despite all manner of hold ups and incidents that would rock any ordinary driver to his core (you know, stuff such as traffic jams, fuel stops, driving breaks and red traffic lights) which the highly trained green and red army can adapt and overcome, instead of knowing the actual truth that they are a wing it,fly by the seat of their pants, cross your fingers and hope it all works like the computer says it will, mob are you? Tsk tsk, so cynical
As long as you get paid the hours your out,why get yourself worked up.If you was loading or loaded you would still be out working so what`s the difference
Just started working a few days for a new firm. Nice people. Good work but can be a lot of sitting waiting for a “mission”. Felt bad at first but owner always says sorry for keeping you waiting. All you do is phone in when you have dropped trailer or tipped. Because they are fair I take my breaks in these times so I can crack on when a new mission comes in. Oh if all companies were like this. Hourly paid as well
Why worry just sit out the shift doing nothing. You where obviously sent to collect a long stand that wasn’t ready. After the 1st visit (you returning to the office every hour etc) I’d have said to em " here’s the cab phone number, give me a call when your ready" I’ll get my head down, I’ll leave you alone and stop annoying you by coming back to the office & getting in you face.
I guarantee after a few hours they’ll have forgotten about you, then after a suitable period I would’ve headed back home.
This is usually know as truckers hide & seek …
Stobarts
Unbelievable someone moaning about sitting around and not hauling… bet your still getting paid though for all the time your sat on ya ■■■…find a good book , watch a movie, better still why don’t you wash your truck…
I love all the sitting around doing ■■■■ all. It’s the only way you feel like you actually earn a decent wage in this game. My average working time for the last 26 weeks was 37.6 hrs, and on checking my diary, I averaged 2 (well actually 1.7) nights out a week. My average take home pay was just under £545 per week. During the “down time” I can do anything from looking on here, to watching a couple of films on Netflix, or going for a walk. After my last job, where you are on the go from opening your eyes to shutting them again, I’ll never complain about down time again

how dya know he doesnt have a passion for driving which is the reason why he signed up for this career.
Sure if youre getting paid to sit around doing nothing, its a bonus. its like some footballers get paid to warm the bench. doesnt mean they are happy doing it.
We’re not happy unless we are moaning to be honest.
I think the point is that it was his last day before the weekend and he was having to go home later than necessary.
I’m sure on any other day he’d happily sit there (and maybe for Stobarts it’s safer to have him parked up than out amongst the general public )
To some a few extra hours pay is not worth the trade off against extra hours at home with your family.

Remember drive, to them you’re just a bum on a seat. YOUR desires don’t matter…now go have a break lol
3 of our drivers once had s wait of between a day to 2 days wait for a backload a few year ago when we delivered glass to Catrine in Ayrshire. They were parked up at the side of B&M and the B&Q on the retail park in Kilmarnack at the side of the A76. Got paid 12 hours each day too happy days
This is what I call a perfect shift.
