This agency thing

Agencies take away drivers job security and are the curse of the industry. Every time someone signs up for an agency they harm the driving future of someone else.
Most agencies charge the company big amounts and pay the drivers a pittance, most agency owners have nice expensive cars and villas on the med whist the drivers they exploit have to scrimp and scrape to make a living.

Gogan:
It doesn’t matter whether you employ someone directly, or through an agency, the cost of that person is an entirely allowable expense for tax purposes.

Pretty much the only expenditure that is not “tax deductible” as you put it is capital expenditure (for which writing down allowances are provided instead) and entertainment!

Sorry guys, but you’re all talking a lot of nonsense here in respect of the supposed tax advantages of employing agency workers… :unamused:

Do I take it that you disagree with me? Or did you simply feel the need to post some kind of response because you don’t actually understand the details of the subject but wanted to appear as though you still had a contribution to make in order to save face?

Assuming it is the latter … nice try!

Totally disagree, but, I have`nt got the time to argue / debate / roll about in the mud.

But, you`ve got me thinking, after 30+ years of employing people direct, and, having taken expensive advice from accountants on numerous occasions, for various successful businesses, I/we appear to have got it wrong :open_mouth:

I`ll have to reconsider my position whilst enjoying the sun on my balcony in the canaries over the next MONTH, as to where did I get it so bloody wrong ■■?

I’ll take your word for it. :unamused:

I’m glad you’ve seen the error of your ways, it will hopefully help you in the future.

Only you can answer that question, though I would suggest not reading the right books on your balcony might have been the first step in your unravelling. Might I suggest the following … amazon.co.uk/Core-Tax-Annual … 872&sr=8-3

and I will mull it over on the balcony of my apartment in Goa for the next month.

nobody does anything for themselves wether its drivers or accountants
everything is subbed canteens road repairs gas board you name it all now casual labour
or as near as ■■■■ it

And I will mull it over in my layby in Bristol.

No it’s not. And don’t give in to it. :unamused:

Someone told me the likes of asda etc only take on permanent staff if they have been with them on agency first. Not sure how true it is though.

Agencys are good when starting out as you majority of them you dont have to do a driving assestment so suits newbies.
One agency i work for pay 10 a hour 12.50 a hour after 10 hrs and 13.50 for between 8pm and 6am when i do work for one particular company where as that companys employee s get 100 for 12 hrs 11 an hour after that they have to pay 500 for insurance and 180 for uniform so it works for me with them.

But above all that agency dont care for me and there is no loyalty with any of them i have never done any damage never late or failed to show etc etc and have known of other guys wreck before and after them and still get called before me

what some people ought to think about whilst theyre in a nice cushy job with a new motor, is if the company went bust or if they found themselves out of a job for whatever reason, is that theyll probably be at the dreaded agency on the Monday morning trying to get signed up. What will they think of agencies then? Principles dont pay the mortgage. Ive seen it happen and its total hypocrisy.
Agency suits me fine, and has done for the last 4 years, but to hear some blokes talk, they really do think they are a higher being because they have a company uniform.
Ive refused jobs at Stobarts, Wincanton and local firms because I like what I do. I realise that makes me lucky, but if you do happen to be in a good job (at the moment!) please dont think youre really worth £12 an hour because you are worth what an agency will pay,…unless you`re really lucky and drop into another great job.

Agencies are here to stay. I do it because its the only way I can get to work part time. I have no desire to work 80 hours a week.

i started on agency at the begining of december and its the best thing i ever done.sure, they change the times and cancel the odd shift, but then again,so do i. im now on better money than i ever have been and working less hours.the agency dont give a dam about me i neither do i them. it would have to be a dammed good job for me to give this lifestyle up.all you have to do to make it work is be a bit flexible.tonites shift is cancelled...so what,im sure i can handle an impromptu night in the boozer

Ex,flippin, zactly. Glad its workin for ya CR.

Alot of company’s that pay there own blokes by salary have trouble getting them to do a shift over 11hrs as they start moaning teddy bears/ dummies out the pram. I have been doing agency for the same depot for 3 years now. working wenesday/sunday to get the weekend rates. And there own blokes on 5on 3off still earn more than me for hours worked. Hopefully they will have jobs coming thought so should be first inline. The jobs one of the easiest i have ever done. The days of agency earning more are long gone. But i did very well in the early days 2001 to 2004 peak rates so don’t moan. i don’t have any debts never borrow if i need any thing get it when needed and pay cash.
