Third lane in the roadworks

Wildy:
No width limit on that section.

You sure about that? There certainly used to be especially from 28 to 29 where the third lane is narrower. I’m down there tonight so I’ll have a shuftie.

I thought all the Knob heads were confined to Facebook, how wrong I was.

The best thing for this idiot to do is surrender his class one licence as has obviously no idea.

Fancy relying on what a jumped up traffic warden says, most of them are clueless.

Bring back 40 and the red flag man :unamused:

■■■■ a brick,is this thread for real?

windrush:
I thought that fifty was a MAXIMUM limit and not a COMPULSORY one? If the vehicle in front is doing 40 or 45 then so what, just ease the pedal from the metal and jingle along happily at a suitable distance and, as I see regularly on that stretch, stop trying to clamber into the back seat of it. Chill out, lower your blood pressure and heart rate and enjoy the longer lifespan you will gain.

Pete.

+1. so many idiots out there rushing about and gaining nothing.

Some things shouldn’t need a sign you should just know it’s wrong, like ■■■■■■.

It would appear to be… :open_mouth:

The traffic officer is wrong

From the above link :

“a goods vehicle having a maximum laden weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter”

Basically does this mean if a speed limiter fitted you can’t use lane3?

Rules out nearly all newer commercials then as standard fitment these days.

m1cks:
If lane one is clear for the car in lane 2 to use but they won’t move over then why don’t you just plod on in lane 1. If you approach the car while you’re in lane 1 and continue to stay in lane 1 after passing the car on his nearside then it’s not an undertake and is perfectly legal to do so.

Exactly what I do.

The answer is simple really, just keep driving in the third, outside, fast lane in your lorry and see what happens. If you get pulled you can come back & tell us all about it, if not you can wave as you drive past, assuming your not held up by some lane hogger. The roadworks are due to finish in the autumn.

Depends what you are using for a candle stick holder :open_mouth:

Apologies to all that I have argued with. I have just realised which signs he is talking about.
I assume that he means the yellow and black with 3 lane markings.
In my experience though, unless there is a width limit in lane 3 these don’t usually have any sign saying “any vehicle” .
They simply have 3 black arrows
The “any vehicle” option normally occurs when lane 3 has a width limit and lanes 1+2 don’t , then the “any vehicle” is over lanes 1+2. I can’t think of anytime I have seen “any vehicle” over lane 3
I was assuming in the OP that he was talking about some sign that was new to me.
Again I apologise and agree in these circumstannces lane 3 is a no-no.
Put it down to creeping senility!

Lanes 1 & 2 for me only please!! :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

only time i use lane 3 is overtaking the wide loads doing 50 on a normal stretch. :sunglasses:

Thought you were restricted to the hard shoulder :grimacing:

I think it is the M621 as you approach Leeds city centre where there is a sign that specifically says LGVs can use the outside lane.

This is a specific signed exception to the normal rule. I would take comfort from it as it is explicit, I’m less comfortable with the idea that a temporary roadworks sign saying ‘any vehicle’ means that LGVs are exempted from the usual road rules. Why would they do this? Why do the roadworks make it necessary or appropriate for LGVs to use the third lane which they are normally banned from using?

Not sure but there may be a clue in the white paint on the floor

Just put an Irish plate on the back and you’ll be grand

Lane 1 on the M8 through Glasgow seems to be used as an access road to lane 2. I don’t know why but a hell of a lot of drivers will not sit in that lane
