Three people were rescued from a bin lorry after it overturned in Monmouthshire.
Not been a good couple of weeks for bin lorries then.

Hope all are ok, but I couldn’t help noticing what I reckon to be a brain dead comment
“The spokeswoman said the saw was used to remove the windscreen of the lorry to allow the three onboard to get out of the lorry. She said they were not “physically trapped” inside.”
Maybe they just thought they were trapped.

Maybe ‘physically trapped’ was intended mean something like ‘unable to move due to wreckage trapping them in place’. Rather than ‘unable to get out through a door or force their way out another way’.
Well they drove past my house twice yesterday and failed to spot 3x full recycling boxes so there’s not much hope of them negotiating a bend is there?
I was a Forman/Supervisor on the Bins in MK for a year (very long year it was) & obviously this time of year is the busiest, with 3 bank holiday days within 7 (they don’t collect household waste on a Sunday)
Twice as much rubbish & recycling than normal, no extra money or overtime during the week, they are forced to work Pick Up Saturdays that they get paid for (to be fair, they did take on a few extra loaders) pressure to get the round done before the tip closes, job n finish/rushing about, 3 or 4 trips to the Landfill & MRF (usually it was 2 trips, round trip takes an hour)
Not being allowed to pre pull/stack the bags up (residents complain about the mess, the loaders are too thick to keep it tidy).
They often ended up doing the round twice most days.
Management Poncing about, meeting up for breakfasts in Morrisons & hour+ long dinner breaks while the blokes work straight through.
Wagons braking down daily (5 years old with another 3 to go !)
Residents putting the bags out after the wagon has passed, then ringing the council complaining that they’ve been missed (the crews are sent back the next day, that can cost half an hour)
Residents putting the wrong waste out, I attended an incident where some Numpty filled a black bag with wall tiles ! (We didn’t take builders waste) the crew rightly refused to take it (all costs time) I ended up taking it in a van (just to get the job done)
There’s no wonder that these bin lorries seem to be having more accidents than usual,
Our local council website has a page with the rescheduled collection days, and it’s been down for most of the Christmas period so no wonder people missed collections.
We have those silly pigeon hole recycling trucks that take ages instead of loading it all up and taking it to a sorting shed, so this adds time to the round. I used to bag up different stuff to help them out but since I have to collect my bin from nextdoor and my boxes from the gutter, the lawn, nextdoor and then play “hunt the lids” I can’t be arsed anymore.
Should they ask for a tip, I’ll give them directions to Viridor.

So do ours, and the website stated that Christmas Eve was a normal collection day. I was actually in the recycling plant myself offloading waste plastic and cardboard from work that morning, so I know they were open, and I saw a couple of council lorries in there whilst I was tipping, yet our area (a hamlet of about 20 houses) was completely missed out. We get collections for blue bags (recycling) and black bags (landfill) on alternating weeks, and we also risk a fine if we either leave the bags out for too long, or put the wrong ones out; so since I had done everything right and they’d screwed up I sent a complaining e-mail.
To the council’s credit, the following Monday a lady phoned the missus, apologised for the oversight and assured her that the bags would be collected before New Year’s Eve, which they were; but if they say they are going to collect on a particular day they ■■■■ well should do.
MartinViking; at the end of the day dustcarts are transport too, nothing in your post is any different to what parcels couriers, hauliers and in fact all the rest of us have to put up with day in day out.
Are the wing mirrors not big enough on dustcarts? Almost every one I drive past starts pulling away when I’m half way along it.
We have 3 different wheelie bins 1 for household waste 1 for recycling 1 for garden rubbish ( which we will be charged £15 per year for now due to cuts this is from March - Oct ) household are collected alternate fortnight with recycling & garden rubbish
I then have to go find my bin as they cant be bothered to put back where they got it from or near they are alway in a rush to get round they stop where they want no matter what even if it block the whole road they dont care
They have to put up with the same as most of us drivers yep they sometimes get tips this time of year or used to
Our garden waste bins are free now, they used to charge but hardly anyone bothered with it and just put in with normal waste. It ■■■■■■ me off that the council want you to provide them with a free waste sorting service, but give no council tax discount in return.
Our bin men are great. We have two wheelies, one landfill, one recycling. They are emptied on alternate weeks. Even if the recycling bin is too full, they still take it, and also cardboard boxes left out.

Leave it out mate… you’ll wake albion up.
Some of the landfills round here were closing early the last couple of weeks as well which restricted how many loads we could get in them. I don’t drive dust carts at my work but due to people having time off i have been driving the artic loads into landfills. Normally i don’t and i forgot how bad the smell is.
I did my bit new years eve getting 66 tons into landfill and a token 22 tons into a incinerator.
Everything is back to normal Monday at our place i don’t know about the council side of things though.
beat this then…

Bin wagons don’t have xray fitted. Not that I know but google had no results.
