Thinking of getting back in the cab

Bit of advice please, other than don’t do it !

Quite a few years since I drove an artic don’t have a cpc and I cut my teeth on seddon Atkinson and the mighty mastiff ( still got the curve in my spine to prove the second)

Is there realistically any Midlands company’s that would take you on and so to speak school you back onto the road ?

Don`t do it

On a serious note, get your cpc sorted first, and then see whats going on locally. You may be better with an agency to start with, get a few miles under your belt and then see if a) youre actually enjoying it and b) it gives you a bit more recent experience for applying for permanent jobs

I had 17 yrs off and found employment easy enough so go for it.

Get a week br just a few days with a training school to get a stress free refresher? Should give your confidence a boost and get you up to speed on autos and hours regs etc. That way you`ll start any new job with a few less worries.

I would say probably not. A company who will invest time and/or money into a person to train them is so rare these days.
There might be someone out there, but even if you volunteeer your time to accompany a driver to learn the ropes there will be ten thousand health and safety reasons why they will refuse.
They all expect fully trained drivers to materialise out of thin air.
But as said above, get a few lessons as refresher drives, get the DCPC and do it. You wont get rich but its still a steady job......but stay hourly paid. Avoid jobs where its job n knock, or a salaried position. Otherwise youll end off driving like these idiots you see every day without a minute to spare. Theres too many holdups nowadays, too much traffic. But if youre paid by the hour it doesnt matter a fluck. Theyve got their fancy trackers, Digicards and Isotrack to show them you`re stuck in traffic so let them pay you, and stay chilled!

I didn’t do this but wished I had, my first run for 17 yrs via an agency was a Sunday afternoon shift for Hovis to Eastleigh then onto Salisbury in an artic but nearly missed the pin when hitching up then on the Tuesday a shift for Focus DIY going to the Isle of Grain.

Nip into peter smythes .i think 3 hours in an artic is £200 might be wrong but just call and ask .great place and great people .well worth a,quick call
