Hi folks
I’m thinking of a career change and am toying with the idea of trying to get a Cat C licence and also do HIAB training as there seems to be quite a few jobs around my area and I would prefer to drive rigids than artics. I’m a gardener by trade at the moment but need work all year round, especially now I’'ve got a mortgage!! And I enjoy driving.
Any opinions and advice from you guys would be most welcome!
Cheers Jon
Are these said jobs with companies or agencies. ? If its the latter then those jobs won’t exist beyond October as Agency HIAB work is also seasonal. All the companies around here have a certain amount of full time drivers, through the summer months they take on extra agency workers for the summer building season for maybe 6 months, then there gone.
There were 2 jobs with companies, the rest were temporary ongoing or temporary with the possibilty to become permanent through agencies. Cheers for that roadrunner! I’ll have to have a good think about what to do before spending any money on trying to get a licence!
Put the hiab money towards ce, theres alot more artic work around. If you go full time with say a builders merchant they’ll put you through their own training course and rightly so, hiabs are dangerous bits of kit in the wrong hands, you can just as easily kill yourself aswell as someone else if you get it wrong. Not trying to put you off crane work, but you need decent quality training aimed towards the type of work you’ll be using it for.
